    A few recent cinema viewings.

    Frozen (2013)
Disney's recent animated version of the Snow Queen. Another beautifully animated and well crafted Disney movie.

    Gravity (2013)
My first foray into 3D at the cinema. A stunning piece of film making and quite enthralling.

    A few on Sky

A Good Day to Die Hard (2013)
Hopefully the last film in the Die Hard series.Unusually for me, I gave up after 45 minutes. Garbage.

    The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013)
Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi play magicians whose livelihood is threatened by a new style of street magician played by Jim Carrey. Quite a pleasant movie, not riotously funny but not too bad.
    Some of my recent photos

    Lots of Airliners.net photos

"Berberian Sound Studio" - overhyped navel gazing tosh. "A Serious Man" - a decent Coen brothers film - but not exceptional. It followed No Country For Old Men, from which they were probably still recovering!!

Oranges and Sunshine - a very good and moving film about the extraordinary story of the enforced migration of British children in care to Australia between the end of the war and 19721, no less!! The work of one woman who still to this day is attempting to put mothers and their sons and daughters together. 130,000 children were sent and it took 23 years before both governments admitted complicity and apologised for what was done and the appalling conditions many of the children suffered in Australia, particularly at the hands of the "brothers".

          Anybody else seen it?

            International Velvet

The follow-up to the 1945 original sees Velvet Brown's orphaned niece arrive from America and eventually wind up on the British Olympic eventing team. Better than I remember it being!

            Con Air

Mad action favourite from Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and an brilliantly OTT John Malkovich.

"The Host" on Sky movies, a SciFi with a difference, very very good, ohh and she's a hottie

White House Down, good film, got the Blue Ray, but on Sky Store too.

Though it did feel like several film scripts had been rolled into one and cobbled together to produce the script, part has a certain amount of The Rock in it, other parts seem to embrace large sections of the script from Die Hard too.
Maybe the American reporters missed it, as they gave it rave reviews, or maybe they were just to dumb to see it.

                            Monument Men

Not bad but not nearly as good as I thought it would be.

Without the parts of the lessor stars, it would have be boring.

                                  The Heat

Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in a good cop-bad cop buddy movie with a difference. Pretty bloody good, actually!

Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl in the famed James Hunt/Niki Lauda drama. Bloody good this was, too.

Yes Rush is a very good film although I preferred the Bruhl Lauda to the Hemsworth Hunt and thought that the post accident part of the film worked better than the pre-accident part.

                                      Death Proof
Quentin Tarantinos half of the Grindhouse double act. One of my fave QT films with great dialogue and mad car chase. 9/10

                                      The wolf of wall street
Mad bad and very rude but oh so glorious! 9/10

                                      American Hustle
Lasted 20 Minutes ,just couldn't get into it. Nil Points

28 Days latter and 28 Weeks later
Danny Boyles version of zombies and the sequel. The first is better than the latter, even though the sequel has the Hollywood stars. 8/10 and 7/10

12 Years a Slave. A good film well directed and with some good performances, but not sure it deserves the blanket adulation the media have given it. In fact I would have liked to have learned more about freed blacks living normal lives alongside whites, who were abducted purely for money and sold into slavery. A common practice and the protagonist in this true story was one of the few who regained his freedom.
