As a bit of escapism it's not bad.

My flight to Korea allowed me to catch up on some movies I've missed over the last 12 months:

Dredd: As a childhood purchaser of the very first copy of 2000AD, I loved this. Much darker and more true to the original than the Stallone version (which I also enjoyed to be fair). Heres hoping for many many sequels!

Wreck It Ralph: Ok it's a kids movie but the choice wasn't great and I needed to sleep! I slept through the last 20 minutes but from what I saw of it was entertaining.

End of Watch: Brilliant, violent, tense and well acted. Recommended.
        Basic Flying Rules:
        1. Try to stay in the middle of the air.
        2. Do not go near the edges of it.
        3. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there.

          Flight
I enjoyed this film and it held my interest. But then I have no areodynamics experience and if you know that it would have been impossible to do what the pilot did in this then you would have a hurdle to overcome before you could get into the film.

For the third time - and no, I did not gloat to my mate who hadn't received her copy of the film in the post...! :diablo:

              Brave

On blu-ray, to see how it stacks up against the DVD. Looks a lot better, and still a great Pixar film.

              Wolfen

Albert Finney plays a weary New York cop on the trail of someone who's killed a highly respected businessman - and eaten bits of him. Decent supernatural horror flick from the '80s.

Taken is a good film. Taken 2 sucks. I rest my case.

Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom and The Last Crusade

Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom and The Last Crusade on Bluray - both very good transfers to HD and well worth the money (at, least the current leading applicant for the role of Mrs BSG-75's money as she bought them for me ) Temple Of Doom is full running length with none of the small cuts made for DVD and TV, Crusade is great fun although the HD transfer does go a bit wibble in places with some blurring and curved edges to the frame.

Both great films in their own right, I'll get to the other two in the box set soon, but a happy evenings entertainment all round !

Ummm, it's just not very good is it ? It lacks the charm of the earlier films and you really wish that they hadn't bothered at all.

The first half is almost classic Indy - with the fisticuffs and the chase through the university - but once they get to Peru, it's open season on credibility for all concerned!

Wreck-It Ralph - interesting latest animation from Disney, not up there with the best (Up, Incredibles etc) and very obscure humour in places, but nice to see some thought in a childrens film and not just aim it at happy meal sales and merchandise.

Skyfall - Am still unsure about this, odd mix of "old" Bond and "new"..... daft villan, secret HQ etc, then new style violence etc.... a muddled film I think.....

almost like the two makers of the film did one half each, guess who did the naff half !?

                                Hard Target

Jean Claude Van Damme does what he does best - kicking ass - while helping Yancy Butler try to find her missing father. Great fun.

                                Robin Hood (2010)

Ridley Scott's version of the classic Sherwood Forest legend. A bit "meh", if I'm honest!!

Little Fish - an Australian film with Cate Blanchett and Sam Neill centred around the Asian drug community in Sydney. Confusing plot and predictable performances. 5/10!

                                      Argo.
The American Embassy Crisis (in Iran) of 79.
Embassy is Invaded and several diplomats flee. This is the story
of one man who gets them out.

This is simply the best film I have seen for several years.
Fast paced dialog. Interesting characters. Tension. Humor. Real edge of your seat stuff.
Go and see it. It deserves it's 96% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Valkyrie - Bryan Singer. Had never seen it and unexpectantly thoroughly enjoyed it. Cruise better than I had imagined and the rest a solid British cast. Extraordinary to think how close they came with the coup actually underway.

Ironically enough, one of the last surviving members of the July 20th plot passed away only recently, according to the BBC website.
