Two weeks ago, on the 7th February, I started my journey to Lanzarote, for the 8th time in as many years. However this time was slightly different for 2 reasons: It was the irst time with my girlfriend, and I didn't fly direct.

My routing was as follows:

Heathrow - Madrid Iberia A321-200
Madrid - Tenerife North Iberia A340-300
Tenerife North - Lanzarote Binter Canarias ATR-72

The return was a more simple:

Lanzarote - Madrid Iberia A321
Madrid - Gatwick BA 737-300

All for £115 inc taxes!

All flights were superb, very fortunately on time, and really no complaints. Iberia are professional, it's just a shame there's nothing in the form of complimentary service. The stand out was Binter...on a 30 minute flight they offered a small chocolate snack, a glass of water, a newspaper and a sweet. The cabin crew were very friendly, and flight crew even friendlier (more of that in a minute!).

Luckily for me, my girlfriend allowed me several hours over the week to take a divert to the airport for some shots. The results are in this thread, I hope you enjoy.

So to start, we have a wingview as we take-off from Heathrow. This made one of the top spots of the day on airliners.net today.

Next is another wingview as we cross the Pyrenees.

And here is the cabin.

Next is the A340 cabin enroute.

And a wingview as we turn onto the apprach at Tenerife.

And the cockpit...nice!

But here's the best part, and one of the highlights of the week. The Binter ATR cockpit inflight at 11,000ft! :D On our way to Lanzarote, the lights of Lanzarote can just about be seen outside the window.

Excellent photos. Especially the mountain view from inside the plane. For some reason my shots from the air always end up very blurry/soft. What settings did you use, any use of filters?

The Palmair 732 does it for me too! Always nice to see a classic. Especially one that has no hush-kit!

How was your flight on Binter? I keep hearing about them having some unique ways of approaching airports. Brick-like landings and stuff! I assume you survived them? ;)

The rest from the week..

This first one was taken whilst eating a pizza in a restaurant about 400m from my hotel. You have to visit this place!

And finally, the return.

Shots into Sun are usually almost impossible through a window, but this time the winglet was on my side ;) Taken as we approached MAD.

The BA 737 cabin to LGW

Then last but not least, the cockpit at the end of a very long journey. A perfect end to a fantastic week.

Hi Peter. I just used f/5.6 to minimise any marks from the windows appearing on the windows. ISO200, average shutter, no filters.

Binter were great. And who else would let you in the cockpit inflight?! I couldn't believe my luck, watching the lights of Lanzarote approach at 11,000ft. Pilots didn't seem to be the daredevil kind, it was probably one of the smoothest flights of the week.

Fantastic shots. Lanzarote is a fabulous place. Was there last august, the approach lights by the beach is a great shot :)

What hotel did you stay in? Was it the one right by the approach?

They have to be some of your best ever, Dan, and that's saying something!

I love the TUifly 737 shot, that livery actually looks really good there! Mind you, they are all absolutely superb. :)

Nice coincidence there. It was sitting on stand at EDI having not long arrived back from ACE when I arrived back from DUB on that very day. :D

Cheers for all of your very kind words! It is well worth going to the Canary Islands and booking yourself a trip on Binter, and asking for a look in the cockpit during flight. It worked for me, and they didn't seem to have any problems.

You may ask what I'm doing up at this ridiculous time of the morning? Well unfortunately it's time to go to work on the busy bar at STN, so I'll be back soon...

Great shots Dan - love the winter light! I remember talking with you last spring about your previous trips to ACE, and would love to get there with a camera myself one day.

Have visited ACE once before, but was only there for an hour or so, and didn't get to leave the tarmac -

Excellent shots and report.

I've got a friend flying on a Bangkok Airways ATR72 today and I'm a little bit envious. I've never flown on anything propellor-driven!
