This year (2001) has been by far the worst year for aviation. Insurance underwriters are at a loss to explain the tragedies involving commercial aircraft this year.

- Attack on Bandaranaike Int'l Airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka left 4 Airbus aircraft completely destroyed and 2 more damaged.

- Attack on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and the crash in Pennsylvania destroyed 4 Boeing aircraft.

- Russian Tupelov Tu-154 crashes in Siberia. (July)

- Russian Tupelov Tu-154 crashes in the Crimean enroute from Tel-Aviv. (Oct)

- SAS MD-87 crashes in Milan, Italy.

RE: Worst year for aviation

As you said... a very bad year.
But i'd like to underline something: Have you noticed? If a plane crashes due to an accident, there is always a "series law", other planes crash shortly afterwards. (And this, since the beginning of aviation).....

Anyway, this is a really sad year.
