They've gone for Airbus. They are getting the A340-600 and the new -300 with slightly more efficient engines. They are also using Airbus for their shorthaul fleet, the 737-800's will be replaced starting in about 2010.

Thats a pity. Personally I prefer the 777 more room on board. Any idea when they are taking delivery of their first one. Looks like the end of Boeing then in SAA.

It seems a bit stupid and a waste of money that SAA are replacing their 737-800's with Airbus A320'S and A319's as the 737-800's were supposed to be a replacement for SAA's previous Airbus A320's.

I know they looked quite cool with the winglets. I thought they were just replacing the long haul fleet all the 747s. But I guess Airbus must be giving them a great deal and I know what ever way they went it would have to last them about 15years. Wonder if the new aircraft will have the new colour scheme.

Has anyone heard which way SAA is going on the purchase of new aircraft? Its the choice between Airbus A340-600 or the Boeing 777-300.
