I'd say that from London you have a bunch of different airlines.
UA , AA , CO , BA , Virgin , DL , NW etc....
Lucky you. You just have to select your criteria . Cost , no connection flights etc..
I use to fly mainly UA from CDG to LAX with no trouble since 10 years.

I've heard good reports about Virgin with the A340.

Really it depends on wha u're looking for and when - if u want to go on the cheap it mite b a better idea to fly to somewhere like JFK and jump on a Jetblue flight or whatever, but if u wanna go direct whith all the comforts u mite look at one of the big majors! A bt more info is required really nick!

Personally I'd choose Virgin and try to get on an A340. Its the best airline / aircraft combintion I've ever flown on.

Virgin has 2 flights, one 744 and one A340. BA has 3 flights, all on 744's. AA and UA each have 1, both on 777's. Of course I always toot UA's horn, and I've flown them between LAX and LHR and had a great flight, even sitting in the middle seat. Virgin, naturally, might have the best on-board service of the lot. Those are the 4 that fly non-stop, per the the 'open skies agreement.' No flights from Gatwick go to LAX. Whoever mentioned Continental, they don't serve LAX from London, you have to go to EWR, IAH, or Cleveland first. By the way, stopping in JFK first isn't necessarily cheaper, even if you fly Jetblue.

Do your self a big favour and avoid Air New Zealand's LHR-LAX flight like the plague. They are really BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-09-02 AT 10:52 PM (GMT)]Being in LAX, I see Virgin being really popular to locals going to LHR and back.
Scandinavian is also good on a 767-300ER (about 2230 USD) and has one stop, Toronto Pearson (YYZ). Flight nos. are SK3871 & SK6547.
-->08:50 LHR - 11:45 YYZ SK3871 AC
-->15:35 YYZ - 17:55 LAX SK6547 AC

Isn't that the flight you got to see the flightdeck, comet? That sounds really bad to me.

My best route was Aer Lingus via Dublin. It's an A330-200 and a very pleasant service. You clear US immigration in Dublin as well which saves a lot of time at the other end.
