JAL Paints “Samurai Blue 2006” Design On Aircraft To Support Japan National
Football Team
Tokyo, Friday January 27, 2006: With the “2006 FIFA World Cup™” kicking off in Germany on June 09 this year,
Japan Airlines (JAL) is showing its support for the Japanese National Football team by painting aircraft with a
special design entitled ‘Samurai Blue 2006’.
The design is of a gigantic blue Japan National Football team shirt being passed over the heads of supporters
accompanied by the wording ‘Samurai Blue 2006’. The design covering JAL aircraft will help boost support for the
Japanese national team.
On international flights the new livery will be displayed on a B777-300ER aircraft operating on Japan Airline’s
daily non-stop service between Frankfurt and Narita (JL407/408), and a B747-400 operating on another route. The
design will also appear on a B777-300 operating on Japan domestic routes.
The design will be displayed on these aircraft over the period stretching from February 20 up until July 9, 2006
when the ‘FIFA World Cup™’ final will be played out in Berlin.
Asia’s largest airline, JAL has been an official supporting company of the Japanese national football team since
1999 providing transportation assistance to team members and officials. JAL will provide the same support to the
team for the “2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™”.
Japan was the first team to qualify for the tournament and will compete with Australia, Croatia and five-times
winners Brazil in the group stage of the competition.
