    Airport profits

There are complaints that airlines do not make profits. Some go bankrupt, like Delta, Northwest, Transmeridian...

    Do airports make profits?

If not, is it likely to happen that an airport goes bankrupt and is shut down?

Many airports are public property. Either state or local. But those airports that are privately owned can go bankrupt and close. For instance, Manston was closed for a few weeks because it's owner had been declared bankrupt.

Airports make a lot of profit (at least in Canada) and increasingly becoming private around the world. YYZ has some of the highest landing fees anywhere.

Also, many airport are placing a lot of emphasis on retail, especially those with long distance travellers. They're at the airport early or often transiting.

For every passenger going thru a BAA airport (Heathrow,Gatwick,Stansted,Southampton,Edinburgh,g lasgow and Aberdeen) the authority makes 5 profit per passenger.
