    Dublin Airport Expansion Announced

    Dublin Airport expansion plans revealed

The Dublin Airport Authority has announced details of its plans to build a new 50,000sq metre passenger terminal at Dublin Airport.

It would cost between 170million and 200million, be up and running by 2009 and able to handle 15 million passengers a year.

It would be located to the south of the existing terminal and to the rear of the existing Pier C.

The new terminal is the main component of a 1.2bn, ten-year Framework Development Programme aimed at increasing the airport`s operational capacity from current levels of
over 18m passengers per year, to over 30m passengers per year.

This will fit nicely with the new runway!

Good for DUB, I can see it overshadowing Shannon in much the same way Glasgow did to Prestwick when transatlantic freedom's were given.

DUB handled just over 17 million last year so we will be lucky if we hit 18 million this year.

From the info above I imagine it will cost double what it says and wont be finished for 10 years.

Also the new terminal will meen that the recently opened Pier C (about 5 years ago) will have to be knocked down. So basically before we can go forward we are going to go back about 10 years first.

As it says in the article Shamrock the new Terminal will be built behind the existing Pier C (FR car park isnt it? :diablo: ) and then I assume once built C will be knocked down and taxiways extended to the new terminal.

If they knocked C down first where would the passengers in the already strectch terminal go??

Here is a picture of the new Dublin. Because they spent/wasted money on the end pier on the right of the 2005 pic they are planning to keep the air bridges in place as "they are worth a considerable amount of money". Can I take any guesses as to what will fit in there?

Any spotter will be sad to hear the Atrium will go and the view from McDonalds will probably go as they are extending this building out towards Pier A for added capacity airside and in the food area.

Looking at the two diagrams, it doesn't appear that DUB will actually increase its gate capacity, rather, redistribute its existing capacing from half bridges and air stairs to an all bridge capacity.

I've been to Dublin many, many times, and found it to be antiquated.

                                  Very friendly though.
