-Isn't it obvious? If the mobile phone is in some way connected to a plot to take over the aircraft and use it as a weapon against Buck House or the Houses of Parliament, the fighters can shoot down the aircraft causing it to crash on an ordinary town with ordinary people thereby ensuring the safety of HMQ, Tony's cronies, the opposition and all the worthy's in the House of Lords.
"A spokesman for Thomson Holiday said someone spotted a mobile phone that "did not belong to a passenger or member of the crew"."
How did they find that out? Did they go round asking the passengers if they had lost their mobile? If it was a terrorist did they really think he would stand up and say that's mine?

Extract from the Sky News web site just now.
Good to see that security is working well!
A passenger flight was diverted under military escort to Stansted Airport after a suspect item was discovered onboard.
A spokesman for Thomson Holiday said someone spotted a mobile phone that "did not belong to a passenger or member of the crew".
The plane, carrying 103 passengers and travelling from Faro, in Portugal, was guided into the Essex airport by two Tornado F3 jets.
A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman confirmed all those onboard disembarked safely after landing.
She said: "At approximately 7pm, two fighter jets from RAF Coningsby were sent to escort a civilian aircraft to Stansted Airport.
"It landed at around 7.45pm, when the passengers disembarked safely."
