Heres an article i found on their website just about their winter schedule, i was wondering if anyone plans to travel to Malta during Europes winter season, and was wondering what you think about Malta and of what you think about Air Malta?

Air Malta will start operating its Winter flight schedule to 34 scheduled destinations as from the 26 October. The schedule which runs till 27 March 2004 sees the National airline adding a Sunday flight to Manchester, thereby for the first time, a daily winter service will be introduced. Furthermore after its successful introduction last summer the airline will be retaining its operations to St. Petersburg and will also resume a weekly service to Hamburg.

“As of this winter passengers wishing to fly between Stockholm and Oslo can do so on Air Malta’s flights since the company has been granted 5th Freedom Rights between the two cities, ” added Air Malta’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Joe Cappello, during a press conference held today at the company’s Head Office in Luqa to launch the airline’s winter operation.

Air Malta’s fleet will consist of 12 aircraft - three Airbus A320, seven Boeing B737-300 and two Boeing B737-200A. “During this coming season Air Malta will start its much awaited fleet replacement project. Commencing in January 2004, with the arrival of the first new Airbus A 320 aircraft, the fleet replacement process will take place over a four and a half year period and will eventually lead to a 12 all-Airbus Air Malta fleet, “ said Mr Cappello.To complement the winter schedule the airline has launched a unique offer to its clients whereby passengers can visit 30 of its destinations at special discounted airfares. The offers are valid from November to December 21, 2003 and from January 5 till March 31, 2004. Prices range from Lm 70, for a return flight to Rome, to Lm115 for return flights to Oslo, Stockholm and Moscow. The prices are exclusive of taxes and airport charges and certain restrictions may apply.

Air Malta has also launched its Winter 2003/4 Flyaway Tours brochure. The brochure features package holidays to almost all of Air Malta’s schedule destinations. Accommodation ranges from 5-star deluxe hotels to guesthouses with private facilities. New additions this season include the brand-new, 5-star Corinthia Bab Afrika Hotel in Tripoli; one free night when booking a minimum three or four-night stay in Holland, France, Italy and Austria; hotel accommodation on half-board basis throughout the Dolomite region in Italy, self-catering apartments in Molveno and budget accommodation throughout Italy. Flyaway Tours can also handle specific requests for accommodation not featured in the brochure in all of Air Malta’s schedule destinations.

This season’s Flyaway Tours brochure also includes a number of special offers. A recently launched feature in the brochure is a number of vouchers for various activities. This season, vouchers on offer include free coffee and cake in typical Austrian coffee houses, 72 hours of free public transport in the Austrian capital and a set of coupons for cafés, bars, restaurants and various places of interest. Included in the brochure is also a 10% discount on all meals at the renowned Rainforest Café in London.

Excellent value for money Flyaway Tours packages are on offer in Tunisia. This winter is no exception with rates starting from Lm66 for three nights on a half-board basis, including flights and return transfers, in 4-star hotels. The Sahara Explorer adventure in the desert is available for Lm152 for four nights with various meals included.

Air Malta’s website, www.airmalta.com, launched just 12 months ago, has registered a steady increase in the number of visitors. Over 9,000 unique visitors access the website every week. Since its launch in October 2002 almost half a million unique visitors have logged onto the site.

www.airmalta.com provides a host of information about the airline, its operations and its subsidiaries and is updated on a daily basis. The website allows its users to view Air Malta’s flight schedule, access the special offers section and secure low cost tickets to a host of popular destinations through the website’s booking engine.

Recent additions to the website include the facility for the 25,000 strong Flypass members to view their Flypass account balance. New members can also enroll on-line. New additions also in the pipeline for Flypass members include the ability to request Flypass awards and the facility for members to change their details on-line. Other enhancements have been made to the booking engine and to various sections of the website.

Air Malta’s Chief Operating Officer concluded, “ Over the years the airline has always been at the forefront of Malta’s tourism industry by retaining its wide network of destinations, enhancing the products and services offered to its clients, by investing in the latest technology and through the upgrading of its fleet. This winter’s operations are a confirmation of this. We are taking another definite step in the right direction.“

Malta is a nice place, crowded but full of history. Air Malta is pretty average, for such a small country it does a good job.

The airline obviously generates much business from winter tourism so the destinations don't surprise me as such. Were Air Malta not suppose to be adding a new livery soon?
