Firstly I would like to say thank you to every one that told me about spotting and everything at Heathrow because eventually I got up there on Monday. I left the town where I live on the train at 9:35 and then 2 hours later after travelling right from the East to the West of London, arrived at Hatton Cross at around 11am.

After getting off at Hatton cross a Tarom 737 flew over straight away, and then after crossing the main road and turning right past the petrol station I come across the well known Myrtle Avenue, right next to the approach lights and just a couple of hundred feet from the runway.

I stayed there until 3 when they changed from 27L to 27R, and then went back to Hatton Cross and got on the bus to the Visitors center. It was not brilliant and atleast it was free, but I could sit down with a drink and continue collecting registrations, with the aid of the arrivals screens situated there.

I live just 4 miles from Stansted airport and so I spend most of my weekends there, but this was just brilliant. Not a single Ryanair or Easyjet! Even the BA A319's going over every 2 minutes were extremely welcome when all I am used to is Ryanair, Easyjet and a few charter or cargo airlines here and there. I don't think I saw anything that would be out of the ordinary to other Heathrow spotters, but everything was out of the ordinary to me. I think the best though have to be 2 Air Jamaica A340's in an hour, the All Nippon 747 in Pokemon colours, 3 British Midlands painted in Star Alliance colours and an Aeroflot Ilyushin 96.

I have a list of all the aircraft and their registrations here that I saw and although to other Heathrow spotters these would be nothing special I am going to post every single one so that people that have never been there can see what it really is like, and not just pick out the best ones.

Glad you enjoyed it - I'm local to Stansted also, I'm in Chelmsford, about 20 minutes drive.

I was supposed to be at LHR today myself, but couldn't go as my mates car was stolen from a car park yesterday. Sub-human scum.

I live in Bishop's Stortford, the nearest town to Stansted. I have been spotting there since I was about 8 and i've been collecting registrations since about the age of 10 or 11. I am glad that there is an airport locally to go to but I hate the idea of it being dominated by Ryanair, which it practically is at the moment. It can be interesting sometimes but nothing beats Heathrow

Ta - it's not my car and I'm fuming. Really has annoyed me, chronically. Just winds me up - instead of harrassing plane spotters, the police should be out there stopping this kind of thing from happening!

Talking of harrasing Plane spotters.... up at our LHR meet the other week, I couldn't but notice how many people who are driving pass, shout things at us... all nasty things.

I think it was at least on 5 if not more occassions, that we were all called W*nkers. Whats the point? Grrrrrr!

Yeh - you get that everywhere. I get it when I'm at Lakenheath, Waddington, Heathrow - our country is largely occupied by these yobs I'm afraid.

You've got to have a hobby, whether it's planes, trains, stitching, drawing, whatever - those who don't are the kind of people who steal cars and shout abuse at those who have something to do with their time.

Sad really, but at the end of the day, it's their problem. I'm not going to stop what I'm doing because some loser in a car called me a name - and it's a reflection on them and their level of interlectualism that they find it amusing.

Andy,

did you notice that the guy in the lorry hit the kerb, he was so busy shouting at us? You always get singled out if you do something a bit different. To be honest I find it funny, that a moron like that thinks he can judge me. I'd rather be an anorak than some mindless eejit whose sole aim in life is to spend his wages in a pub toilet.

Dave just incase you should want to know who the owners of the bizjets are:

CS-DHG --- Netjets

ZS-AOL --- Anglo Aircraft

Not sure on the last one, sorry. :)

I also noticed that from Myrtle avenue if you look toward the maintenance areas, between the hangars you can see the aircraft taxiing toward 27R. If the aircraft have the last two letters of the registration on the tail, you can usually work them out and if they are at the right angle you can sometimes see the whole registration on the side of the aircraft. This is how I got the registration of the BWIA A340, which A330 Crazy seemed to be envious about!

PS LN Strike Eagle as you live locally to Stansted do you go there often? If so which spots do you think are best? I tend to either go to the fire training center if they are on 23 or just outside the long-stay car parks if they are on 05.

For 23 I go under the approach - there's a gate that takes you to a field, and theres a lay-by to park opposite the gate. Never been there when they're using 05.

Haven't been for ages, last went in May but we were moved on after seing one plane land, and the last time I took a decent photo there was late Jan/early Feb.

I'll post a couple of pics taken from under the 23 approach in a moment.

Here we go then - this one was taken out on the road, next to the layby in a clearing through the hedge, actually a farm track I think.

The tree wasn't intentional, but I quite like the effect, kind of "arty". Also shows the fact that it was taken in the middle of winter!

Taken from the field with the gate, takes you to the corner of the perimiter fence.

And this one is taken when they're using 05, I told a little white lie. :) Taken from the 23 end though....

Great photos, have you ever tried putting any of them on airliners.net

I have a few photos as I have been up the control tower, I have one of the cargo ramp which has a line up of a Titan ATR 42, a TNT 146 and a BA world cargo 747. I just tried putting it on but it wont except it. I will try messing around with it to make it a smaller file size then I will try again.

Does any one know of a website that has information and operators/type of aircraft on all the worlds airliner registrations. I know that there are certain sites that list for example G- or F-, but is there just one that lists them all?

Thx - I've got three photos on Airliners, I prefer JetPhotos- search for my name there, there's 360 uploaded.

Try searching for the registrations on Airliners and JetPhotos, you get the results from the database with all the relevant info, registrations, operators, types etc.
