Centennial of Norwegian commercial aviation.

On July 10, 1918 Norway's first national airlines was formed in Christiania, Norway: Det Norske Luftfartrederi. The company had ambitious plans and wanted already during the First World War open an air service from Norway to Great Britain to transport the Scandinavian mail safe across the North Sea. The route was not opened due to lack of aircraft.

After the war the company worked to open other routes and managed to open on August 16, 1920 a service from Stavanger to Haugesund and Bergen. After two month the service was closed down and the company liquidated. Read all about DNL and the many other airlines and aircraft that were in Norway right after the First World War in the book "The Beginnings of Norway's Airlines, 1918-1922".

Nice colour poster. It's good to see any aviation milestone celebrated.

There have been commemorations and flights in the USA for the airmail centennial. However, because they don't involve warbirds, they don't get as much notice.
