-Buy an autofocus slr , the type of camera that can chanche its lenses. With a 75-300 zoomlens you can hardly go wrong anymore. Camera brand isn't very inportant anymore. I use Canon myself since 1978. BW Roger

-I have a Nikon SLR F55 autofocus. Its not digital, so any pictures that come out of it would have to be scanned if you were to upload them onto the computer. So make sure you have a decent scanner.
But I think nowadays mos people opt for the digital camera... Sorry I know im not much help. :(

-I think the quality of the lens is the most important thing and being able to zoom in to get those faraway shots is vital for me.
Lot's of the Canon and Nikon range these days have autofocus zoom lenses and a raft of auto set up modes which give you your point and press ease of use as well as the ability to take better pictures.
Might I recommend the Canon EOS 300 or something similar. I got one recently with two lenses included for under £300.

-I'd echo what Ren has said. If you like action shots such as airshows, landings and take-ofs as stated then you would be much better suited with an SLR, the picture takes the instant you press the button and theres no delay as with a lot of point and shoot cameras (especially digital).
The Canon EOS 300 is the one I started with and is a great camera, I think theres a new version called 300V out now.

Can anybody advise me on buying a decent but moderately priced new camera. Mine was stolen not long ago but it was getting old and tempremental. I know very little about the technicalities, I am a point and press the button type of person.
The one thing I did like about my old camera was that it had a built in zoom which focussed itself. What is confusing me is that when I am at an airshow I see some blokes with these large cameras with lenses two feet long and and a grand piano sized suitcase of bits and pieces, then I see other blokes with tiny cameras that you could put in your pocket So could someone please recommend something that I can use at airports and airshows and also Landing/taking off shots. I repeat I am a technical idiot.
