thats what most people say.....i dont blame them for it....but i love Russian jets, and i dont think they are dangerous, its the way they are kept, maintained and flown that is dangerous.

According to the media this a/c hit a hillside on approach to Trabzon in bad weather. Looking at my own logs I have 24 flights on Russian made aircraft noted and I'm still here, I would not hesitate to make it 25 or more, 'nuf said! Condolances to all involved in this sad accident.

Like Kabir said, I think most Russian aircraft are well made and probably would last forever. Likewise, pilots look like they have been well trained.

However, the FSU seems to have a very poor maintainence culture. Also, Russian engines appear to be sub standard. Even with the good standard of airframes and piloting, the engines and maintainence let the side down.

The country is shocked. Accidents do happen...but what the hell are our soldier being taken in an ukranian rickety plane?. Of course accidents do happen. But when one refuels in a very conflictiv airport (surounded by mountains), without any navigation aids, with permament bad weather, and with a plane which doesn´t have no TCAS; GWPS and other and whose procedures seem to be risky....the accident is something expected. I wonder if the Spanish Air Force A310 couldn´t have taken them or an Iberia or other decent charte plane. I am really upset. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVERTED. My condolence to the family and respect for these militars, whose main duty is keeping peace, defusing mines, helping poor communities, giving food and medicine assistance and support to people who need it. Really disturbing event. Here you are the web of the airline involved

yea great shame. I think the Yak-42 does have a better record than most of the russian types - to b fair i dont think i'd have a problem on one of them with a reputable airline where they're more likely to b well maintained
