-I am sure someone told me that you can get a device from Currys/Dixons or someone like that that just plugs in the back and it will allow you to play any type of DVD.

-Thanks for the replies chaps.
I e-mailed the company at midday today (on a saturday) and have just received a reply this evening (impressive response time). They say that all their DVD's are programmed to work in all regions.
I shall be spending a bit of hard earned with them.

-The majority of USA... ahem... "specialist" dvd's are region free. Only the major movies are regionalised by the big producers to control their release around the world. That said the vast majority of DVD players are easily hackable to become region free, especially the cheapo supermarket brands, most of which will play anything without any kind of hacking at all. That's what makes them cheap. Adding the region coding cost money.

-I had some problems with Justplanes/World Air Routes with the old VHS videos at Christmas. I ordered Cuba and Heathrow videos yet did not realise that because they were sourcing them out they only had videos that worked on American systems left, not PAL. Stupid me, the video got eaten
The Aurigny DVD looks good, when I get a DVD player I must order it.

-You'll also find that tha vast majority of new (2 years ish) PAL VHS players can handle NTSC playback these days on UK televisions. If you still have NTSC tapes that you can't get to play then look in the yellow pages for a conversion service. Most wedding video companies even do it these days. :D

-I have the Britannia DVD which doesn't work on my DVD player (comes up with a 'non-PAL' message), but does work on the DVD drive on my computer.

-I have a feeling that I am on the Aurigny DVD. I would be quite interesting to see myself in action.

-Have a look on this website for a comprehensive list of DVD hacks that will make your DVD player region free. Don't worry it's not illegal or anything and as I said earlier, many cheap players are already region free.
I've got a cheapo Dansai 1010 from Tesco's which does the trick and a Philips DVDR1000 MkII which records as well as plays in PAL/NTSC . I normally make back up copies of all my DVD's and precious VHS tapes that I've collected over the years.

-Yes Skycruiser you are. I was horrified when I found your mugshot as the first photo on this web page!

I have had further e-mails from these people asking if I could be the subject of a new DVD covering one of my TCX flights. They are not planning to release anymore Britannia 757 DVDs so are quite keen to use me! Now it's down to the TCX PR department and flight ops to allow it.

-It would be great to see you flying, wysiwyg!
Knowing that skycruiser features in the Aurigny DVD has made me want to get it even more now.
They seem to be getting around the airlines pretty quickly and seem to be relesing 1 or 2 DVDs a month. It would be nice to see a flybe one!
How do the camera crew get access to the flightdeck these days?????

-I have e-mailed them asking them about their approach to flightdeck access before I speak to my own company. If they are currently working with other UK companies it will make my job easier to get it approved.

-I'd be surprised if there was even a camera crew in the cockpit. Any of these videos I've watched all rely heavily on the use of mini and micro cams clipped onto the appropriate spots in the cockpit and probably coupled to little mini DV recorders. These little things are tiny and are used a lot these days in spots where you can't get a real tv camera, in Formula One cars for example.
The crew or captain's in flight commentary would also be easily recorded using light weight digital sound recorders such as Digital Audio Tape (DAT) or Mini Disc (MD).
As for all the other stuff in the video that doesn't directly interfere with the flight crew's business... It will be shot on better equipment with better lenses, picture quality etc, probably Digital Beta as used in broadcast. This may include interviews with the crew before and after flight and lot's of nice shot's of the plane taxing, flying past, air to air etc.
I would love to do one myself, closest I got was some air to air of an RAF Bulldog trainer over Fife for a feature on the RAF Leuchars air base. Also did some helicopter stuff hanging out a Jet Ranger on a little rig with a pilot who I'm sure was just back from Vietnam! That was a day for the brown trousers....

In the latest Airliner World there is an advert from World Air Routes showing a new DVD covering the Aurigny fleet. They appear to be an american company but I am concerned that if I order this DVD from them it won't play on my UK DVD player. Has anyone got any experience of this?
Thanks
