Posting images onthis forum - some help please.

Hi

I use to post some of my images on this forum using attachments, however since I am well over ny 5 megabyte limit I am unable to use this method. I have had to simply provide a link to my web site instead.

There appears to be a way of posting a few images so that they come up without anyone having to click on thumbnails which from what I have seen may overcome the 5 megabyte limit. I have tried to post this way but without success.

I have a Fotopic web site and a UKAR hosting gallery.

Can anybody advise me and give me some instructions? Your help will be greatly appreciated

Hi,

I am not sure if your Fotopic website will allow hotlinking. That depends on the kind of subscription you got. If you got the full package you can do the following:

Now remove all arrows with brackets to activate the code.


If your site does not allow hotlinking you can always upload your photos to Imageshack.us and post the photos from there.

If you have your own webspace (many ISPs provide it free of charge), you can store it there, then simply use the img tags alone.

I STRONGLY recommend you ensure the images are no more than 800 pixels wide, to keep them "forum friendly".



It is also a good idea to try and shrink the file size as much as possible, but not too much as it will affect image quality.

Hi,

Log into fotopic and then select the collection you want to link a photo to. Click on the individual photo and a window will pop up. Go to 'info' and from there you can find the original link.

Heres an example:

BTW. I must have been standing right next to you last Saturday at Biggin Hill. I had a brown cap on, and was using the same 100-400mm lens as you, only on a 350D body. Ring any bells?

I would like to thank you all for your very good advice. I am very grateful.

I have finally managed to upload an image on my Old Warden Naval Air Display thread.

In the end I have used Imageshack.us. I am unable yet to post my images from my Fotopic web site. This would be my preferred option and I have sent an email to Fotopic for further advice and clarification.

I looked at My Webspace as an option but I get he impression that the one provided by my ISP is not that good.

Alex, I am not sure if I was right next to you at Biggin Hill but I have looked at your web and you could not have been too far away from me. I was standing beside two gents on my left and a young disabled person on my right standing on a blanket. A bit further to the left of me was a person who became unwell and the St Johns ambulance was called to take a look at him but everything looked okay in the end. If you were with him then I remember you. There was a grassy hump the crowdline just the other side of a taxi way and I think I ws about 200 feet to the left of it.

Why? Who is your ISP?

Hosting, is hosting - unless you're forced to go with an ISP that sees your webspace as an opportunity to place it's adverts. But that is rare. Heck, I can even host pictures on my server here at home, and have them appear on any website I link too (it's a bit more complex, but not impossible - especially if you have broadband of any description).

Windows XP is perfectly capable of allowing you to log into your own webspace, once it is setup - You can use Internet Exploder initially, then a folder will appear in My Network Places - works just like Windows Explorer, you can drag and drop files into the space (you're prompted for your login name and password, just to keep it secure). Then you can link to the files using your webspace address.

I do not think I am as computer literate as you are. My ISP is AOL with broadband and I think I just did not like the look of what I saw.

I was looking at AOL Hometown which is a place to store pics in journal type fashion. I was probably looking in completely the wrong place.

I will explore my computer and windows explorer over the next few days.

Just to clarify you would need to replace the <blah> tags above with *square brackets i.e. [blah]

You need to make sure direct linking is turned on within your fotopic account.

Go into the 'copyright protection' heading in fotopic, and make sure it is on 'YES'.
