I have heard most recently that it will be based upon the APG-73, but will be fitted obviously with the AESA antenna. Sounds like the APG-79? Sure does, and it could be the same set with only minor differences. If so this would go along way toward USN fleet commonality.

However, originally, as I believed from reading early in the programme, I got the impression that it was to be a mini-APG-77 based upon the same technology but downsized and not as powerful.

Exact clarification would be nice.
