Question Squadron 13 Mosquito PR.34 color schemes Iraq 1948-1949

    Greetings,

In reviewing the history of photo reconnaissance operations by Squadron 13 in 1948-1949, including overflights of the southern border of SSR, I have run across undated photos of Mosquito PR.34's in both high speed silver and PRU blue. Can anyone comment on when the blue was overpainted with aluminum, or whether Squadron 13 was a mixture of both schemes? Attached is a link to a photo showing one such Mosquito in blue. RG??? Many thanks,

This High-speed silver finish appeared 1948-1949.
The finish was officially named "Silver Dope" - to spec. 33B/317 516. Type C - Cellulose; a mix of 4-1 aluminium/clear dope.
The slightly later finish was: "Colour Silver. Spec. Cellulose DTD 63 Synthetic DTD260 Stors Ref Cellulose 33B/317, 556, Synthetic 158, 561."
Both had a nasty habit of fading/weathering rapidly; and when polyurethane paints arrived, there was no metallic version.... so they went for Light Aircraft Grey.
