Makes note to myself.......... Must fit in a visit to the NAM in 2017
Its time to start a 2017 Newark Air Museum Briefing thread, through which I will endeavour to keep people advised of the day to day activities at NAM.
Again on behalf of everyone at Newark Air Museum I would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who visited in 2016 and in so doing helped NAM achieve a good year for visitors; albeit down slightly as compared to 2015. The associated income is being used to allow the museum to continue to undertake more restoration work and site development projects.
Details will continue to be added to the Latest News Page on the website.
Also, details about the other events such as the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble Table Top Sale 4 March 2017; etc. can be found here on the Events Page.
Happy New Year everyone and at a convenient time would it be possible for a kindly Mod to lock the 2016 Briefing thread?
Final reminder for now; NAM is shut today, Sunday 1st January, but back open at 10am on Monday 2nd January.

Engine Failure:.... A condition which occurs when all fuel tanks mysteriously become filled with air.
That's good to hear ~Alan~ and I know that you'll be made very welcome.
NAM is just about to open for the 2017 season and I'm in NAM Shop awaiting instructions for helping to complete the 2016 stock-take.
As ever regular updates can be found in here!
No flies on you Howard!
Happy New Year!
"The Auster should be recognised for what it is: a gentleman's aerial touring carriage and a nice aeroplane"
Happy New Year to you as well Joe, I try not to let them settle; too many things to be done at the start of this year. All NAM needs is the finances to see them all come to fruition. So Im just keen to keep spreading the word wherever I can. So more visitors please!
Work on the TriStar Sim over in display hangar 2 was looking good yesterday; the Monospar was also showing signs of good progress and repairs etc. on the Shackleton are also continuing.
A fascinating trend was picked up yesterday while helping out in the shop on the stocktake, with lots of families taking out museum membership as a way of getting good value admission rates for the whole year. Long may it continue!
Details about some possible access issues for this coming weekend (Carole Nash Classic Bike Guide Winter Classic Show that takes place on 7th & 8th January on the Showground) have been added to NAM website more details in here.
Plus potential NAM visitors should be aware of some temporary excavation work on access road down to the museum site / parking area (tough former airfield taxiway); and also in the museum site itself in the area by the Ashton and toilet block.
The following message was posted on the NAM Twitter feed earlier today: “We have some copies of the 247 (China-British) Squadron Association newsletters available for disposal from #NAMarchive - any interest?”
I thought this might be of interest on here; if anyone would like more details please send me a PM and I will pass on your details.

Some interesting work underway on the Saab Viggen at NAM being reported on other fora:
Today the Saab Viggen in Display Hangar 2 at the museum has been the centre of attention. The Little Jet Company has been LiDAR scanning & photographing the aircraft for a large scale flying model project that they are undertaking.
As well as around the airframe they have been undertaking some internal photography of panels, cockpit etc. Fresh out of the camera in Hangar 2 heres a link to a 360 degree view of the Viggen cockpit https://theta360.com/s/ifmcdFCMP7n0H5KP52WXhYPh2
It's anticipated that the usual 'sellers list' option will be added to the NAM website later this week for the 4th March, Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble - so if any sellers want to email lists through please do so when you have a moment!
As previously advised the Sellers Listing for the March Aeroboot / Aerojumble has now been added to the NAM website.
However I understand that it could be Sunday before any further updates are added to the list; sellers should follow the link to submit details for inclusion on the List!
The NAM website is now advising that all of the tables for the Indoor Aeroboot /Aerojumble on 4th March have now been booked, with a waiting list system in operation in case anyone cancels.

Details of some of the aircraft that will be open to the public at NAM during the forthcoming half-term holiday have been added to the NAM website; these include the Argosy Experience & Vulcan XM594.
More details in here, I would anticipate further details will be added to the website as more aircraft openers sign up for next week.
Other fora reporting the following information from Newark:
Quick reminder that our half-term open cockpit sessions start tomorrow and these include the Argosy Experience & Vulcan XM594, details in here!
Pleased to advise that our new Guide Book is also on sale, which now includes four extra pages so that we can feature the 77 aircraft and cockpit sections that we currently have in our care.

Update 23.02.17: We will be closing at 2pm

NAM is back open, with no major damage being reported to the aircraft or site infrastructure; normal opening today until 4pm (last admission @ 3pm)
Website noting some fence damage to western end of NAMs Southfield Site due to some Airfield Anarchy obstacles that have been blown over the fence.
During the next couple of days the tables will be set out in Hangar 2 for the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble Sale at NAM on Saturday 4th March; Im trying to get a copy of the layout plan so that I can post it on here before the weekend.
A Quick Guide to the sale can be found in here! Looking forward to meeting up with a few familiar faces!
The Hangar 2 plan for Saturdays Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble is now available; plus dont forget the Quick Guide can be found in here!
Please be aware of some nearby overnight road closures that might affect early arrivals from the A46 / A1 routes timing show that they should have re-opened, but dont get caught out!
Also remember if taxiway car parking near motor auction site is parked up there will be space just past main museum entrance in NAMs Southfield Site!
Quick reminder about the Indoor Aeroboot tomorrow; the grounds are likely to be wet from todays rain so mind the puddles. http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Aeroboot_Quick_Guide
I thought it might be worthwhile posting this info re car parking:
Car parking for buyers: The car parking area on the old taxiway is now restricted to the left hand side as you approach the museum; for extra parking please drive along towards the museum entrance & into the Southfield where there will be additional parking available.
Hopefully there might be a temporary facility for taking cash admission fees in the car parking area, which might allow for access from the Southfield Site car parking area into Hangar 2. Card payments will still need to be made by using the normal Shop entrance. (May be more attractive route for some - good stock of pre-owned books currently on sale in there!)
Hope to see some of you tomorrow!
Any feedback from yesterdays event. Did any one find any nice 'treasures'
