    That photo reminds me of what the Captains of the steam-powered K-Class submarines used to say...... "Too many bl**dy doors".

    I count NINE doors - not including the main gear doors.

    No wonder the F-35B has to have such a powerful engine - it has to overcome the drag of that lift fan door !!! - at a critical moment.

    The lift fan door actually helps guide air into the lift fan and does not create a lot of drag.

    Below 90kph, drag is irrelevant. This is why you can see a massive US/UK (!) made SUV out speeding a Japanese sport car from 0 to 60mph (100kph)

    No, not irrelevant. I can use air braking on a bicycle at 30 kph. A map in a back pocket flapping in the wind is the difference between a few kph under & just over 80 kph down the same hill in the same conditions (still air).
