"Home" is not necessarily over the controller, & unless it's rotary-wing, it isn't going to hover anywhere.

The DP14 is part of a U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, or USAMRMC, effort to look at alternatives to evacuating casualties in what the Army and Marine Corps calls Multidomain Battlefield, a operational concept designed to prepare the joint force to operate in the domains of land, sea, air, space and cyberspace.
I have a hard time to understand why they use full feathering and flapping hinges on an UAS that size (small). Even Hugues did not have to wait for the composite revolution

    Or

Given the type of mission and nap of the earth flying they envision, a rigid rotor tech would be more appropriate. To alleviate gust, prioritize agility and flight precision IGE (think FCS coding time), the articulated rotor have proved its age...

Not sure I agree with the "long endurance" bit there. 45 hours maybe, but not 4 hours!

FAA Says Drones and People Don’t Mix

An FAA study released last week concluded that people on the ground are susceptible to three dominant kinds of injuries should they be unfortunate enough to meet up with a drone, especially a unit’s unprotected propellers. Those risks include blunt force trauma, the most significant contributor to fatalities, lacerations and penetration injuries.

Quadcopters: the latest addition to Marines' toolkit

Bringing [quadcopters] in of varying sizes from nano up to larger systems adds to the toolkit from which the Marines can operate.

If I’m operating in a densely urban environment … a fixed-wing system may have to be pushed to a little bit higher orbit, and you don’t always necessarily have eyes on the target. But a quadcopter or a [vertical takeoff and landing] system gives you that perspective to maintain eyes onto those targets.

Oh dear. The Torygraph needs proofreaders. I'm sure he didn't really say "I'm a very pubic Remainer".

Coast Guard brings in drone to fight drug smuggling at sea

    Among other:
With three to five Coast Guard cutters covering 6 million square miles — from the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico to the eastern Pacific Ocean — it's like having a few police cars watch over the entire lower 48 states.
