J-20 has the most ugly angles of any 5th gen, by far.

And yes YF-23 looked bloody awesome.

From side and bottom view, YF-23 is very ugly. YF-22 is ugly, F-22 is most pretty. x-32 is the most ugliest. J-20 looked too long from the side view, but the front is okay.

    YF23 > PAKFA > F-22 > F-35 > X-31 > J20

The pakfa is the sexy beast. The 23 look is impaired by its large trapeozidal wing mounted amid fuselage and the lack of LEVCON.

But I do agree that the 20 is the ugliest of the lot.

    YF-23 by several million light years. PAK-FA a respectable 2nd. F-22 3rd.

To quote a colloquialism from our colonial brethren, I would call the YF-23 'pretty badass!'.

Its rather sad that the YF23, design did not see the light in some other form (YB23)..It would have made a perfect F-15E/F-117 dual replacement. The Most CAPABLE solution may well have been F-23/F-120 (Variable Cycle engine of the 90's) ...

I'm thinking and I'm not alone in this that the YF-23 was redesigned for other covert roles, nudge nudge.

Having said which it has not a patch on the Bird of Prey:

Not a fighter I know but some listed are not fighters either.

I'm also starting to think the Yf-23 is looking a bit dated and could do with a refresh (but we will have to wait for GEN6 for that to happen unless the chinese get bored of amking F22/35 hybrids....

Perhaps the secret UCAV's and LRS_B's being developed (if by NG) would reflect upon the heritage of the design teams that designed the B-2 and YF23. It was an awefully capable design not to have been selected in some shape or form. Given Northrop is out of fighter development, i wonder if they would still produce a competitive solution for the 6th gen birds....Hope they do...Many consider them the undisputed champions in stealth, here in the DOD based on secret work.

I agree entirely. My opinion would be that after the YF-23 effort the team were moved into black projects.

A lot has happened since the ATF, MD, which were a part of the YF23 Team, merged with Boeing, and Boeing worked with Lockheed on the YF22. Ever since stealth designs were first operationalized, its been a Lockheed , Northrop thing from the F-117 to the B-2, to the F-22/F-35 ...Perhaps its NG turn now , I know Boeing has been investing very heavily to come up with their phantom works division. The air force association, quoted a USAF official who laid out the cost of maintaining one complete design team (Team includes designers from aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics etc)...The Cost per program (For just the bomber) was 100 million Per annum, per team, just to keep them working (development is extra)..Back in the day it probably cost a lot more, given how everything had to be done without computers...So I am not sure whether the Government could keep alive 3 teams...for decades...Wonder what they could acheive now, Given that thee YF23, was designed around 25 years ago...

    Hi All,
While I agree with most the YF-23 I cannot help but wonder about the Mig-144 (Before you say it a Development Aircraft) it did fly once and has apparently been cancelled but had the funding been available I am certain this very capable looking Aircraft would be amongst those already mentioned.

YF-23 is the champion of stealth fighters. Although it would've been a good bomber to replace the F-15E and F-16 in the strike role. YF-23 wasn't nearly maneuverable as other fighters due to it's exhaust engines.

still, YF-23 wins by long margine! Even more so for being 25 year old design and still the best damn looking stealth plane ever!

If China, USA, or Russia rolled out such plane tomorrow, all of us here on the forum would poop our pants. Period!

Second place for me is Pak-Fa, with many similar lines as YF-23.

The YF-23 then the Pak -Fa, it is strange the Pak -Fa nose is almost similar to the YF-23 nose pure coincidence or have the Sukhoi designers arrived at the same conclusion as the Northrop designers did back in the late 1980s.

I don't think they're similar at all. Both are rather "slender", but that's about it. The YF-23's nose had some pretty promiment chines around it at an angled rather than a smooth profile, a much pointier radome etc.

I'm going to go against the gain here: T-50 > YF-23. I don't think the present paint scheme does T-50 any favours, and the engine cowlings aren't on yet!

For ugliest (excluding BoP, X-32, etc.) it's a toss-up between F-35 and J-20. The former has the lines of a small delivery van whereas J-20 commits the arguably greater sin of making the intrinsically elegant delta-canard layout into something brutish
