The Belgians want an ABM capability into their new Frigates. Interesting.

On another note, the good old Europeans are at it again, right now there are FIVE clean sheet designs for what amounts to be GP Frigates in the 3500/5000 tons department across Europe! And i am not even counting the likes of T26´s, FREEM´s, etc, that are a mit bigger...

US Navy surface force strategy- https://news.usni.org/2017/01/09/new...urface-warfare

    "If it floats, it fights"
Navy is pushing distributed lethality. They are considering fitting the VLS launchers that the San Antonio class has space reserved for example.

Nah, they're the same kind of 039Bs that they built for themselves (and seemingly suspended for a while) a few years back.

If they're for Pakistan then there would be a bit more pomp and ceremony about it.

That's partically because they are codeveloping with the Dutch, which are implementing BMD on their current Zeven Provincien class. Denmark and Germany are also moving in that directions (sharing same radars with the Dutch). Also, an ABM-version of Aster 30 is in the making. So, we may see Brits and French also moving that way (their S1850M radar on Daring and Horizon ships is a derivative of the Smart-L on the Dutch, Danish and German ships. Spain and Norway may follow, given their AEGIS equipped ships.)

    McCain's "White Paper":
    1. Modify exsisting LHA into small carriers with cats/traps. No idea how his office proposes to make the LHA speed acceptable for traditional carrier ops.
    2. Cut the LCS for a "true frigate", Navy against this due to probable five year delay from LCS production freeze to new frigate.
    3. Double sub production (great idea, but not sure it's possible unless each yard can have several SSBN and and SSN under construction at the same time).
    4. Increase Arleigh Burke flight III planned numbers (already shaping up to be the next great cost overrun). Personally, I think the Zumwalts should have been kept in production beyond the 3 as a hedge for the flight III. Zumwalts have the power/space for AN/SPY-6(V).
    5. Speed up fielding of MQ-25. (I really don't get this program, HV-22 could fill COD and tanker roles), if the Navy is going to field a LO UCAV, you would think that it would have a strike capability.
