About NAPO. They have other production orders besides the Su-34.
Russian Aviation prospect will only gain from re-tooling NAPO.
After the HellDucks orders are through, they will shift their production to other products, thus keeping the workforce and their skills.

Thats why the Su-34 program took forever, not because of its complexity or size.

Its not a very large or demanding program.

PS: Any news of when the Su-35S's from KnAAPO will be transferred to Akhtubinsk? ( i suspect those that are already there -3 or 4?- count against the 6)

Yeah, i read some days ago about it; Going by memory, due to be transfered to Akhtu by the end of the week, 6 of them. Silly to say it is 6 of them tho, considering S-1 til S-4 are already there. Unless KnAAPO has built S-8, S-9 and S-10. But so far only seen confirmation of bort numbers up to and including 07 (S-7).

Actually the last contract that was signed was for half the value you are quoting, at around $40 mil each. There was a separate contract for engines so I think that might not have been included in the $40 mil. Ah here we go, maybe the news i read said Monday. Cool that they are inviting to Akhtu, very few spotters there, hence why i dont look forward to T-50 being transfered to there...

And yes, there is some confusion about what they actually mean with those 6 fighters. As i said, four of them are in GLITs already, so if 6 newly built Su-35S arrive from KnAAPO it will be... surprising. If not, S-1 is the biggest candidate to not be induced indeed.

Which is odd, as this photo appears to have been taken during MAKS 2011 - you'd expect a handful of images to have turned up, with so many cameras available to snap one!

Neither do i, since that's a H-35 ( or westernized, Kh-35 ). Most likely it was not taken during the show, or taken in area with not alot of access.

According to the info on the photo it was taken at MAKS on Friday 19 August 2011.

It was taken from the south side of the runway - from about where I was on the Saturday - but it didn't show on that day

I was also there on the Thursday - and photographed the 'museum' aircraft that you can see in the background of the MiG-29 photo.....



Note also the row of public toilets behind the MiG.

I wonder why it only made one appearance - when I wasn't there!!!

That is less than half of them. Hopefully next year we will see the in the original camo, but with new stars... (back to pre 1943 it is)

Difference in series. And it is not green/black color. Aubergine/blue ones are later series.

They are not carrying the dark camo because they have APU, they carry dark camo and have APU because they were made later. 02 for instance still have the non dark camo, and carries fences and APU. As i said, difference in series and hence the time they were made at. Obviously 02 is the first aircraft to receive improvements (APU + fences) and was painted in the "old" camo prior to the "new" one was ordered.

Three Su-35S' arrived in Akhtu today. Hopefully someone did the tour MoD invited at.

I was confused for a second as well when i saw it some days ago, but it is old picture. Notice lack of fencers + the new sensor in front of windshield.

All five that was recently delivered are aubergine.

PS: Report said in nearest days three more will arrive. I guess 05 will be with that batch. Sure was surprising to see 08 all of the sudden. Next ones should be 05, 09 and 10 then. But they have fooled us before... (like today)
