A blue maple leaf was placed over the red center of the RAF roundel. Here is a profile, from Wings Palette.

It looks to me like perhaps the earliest form of a distinctly Canadian roundel. Take the one currently in use- in this case the RAF roundel- and just add something to it to make it uniquely Canadian.

the one shown on this topic is from 1948 but the official Canadian roundel was only adopted in 1965, so you might be right.

The white circle ? Why do not they paint a white star in its place at once here, in the Netherlands ? Or modern European "extra-tolerant" laws prohibit draw any more or less complex characters, excluding the circles only ? Are they afraid of the stars ?
Here we see the example of high level of stupidity...

Jesus, what is this World coming to ?

Just an insurance issue. The delivery was in Chile so during the whole flight they were Dutch so no Chilean marking allowed.

    Hutt River
Hutt River Fuji FA-200-160 Aero Subaru and Cessna 182. The Principality of Hutt River is a micro-nation in Australia, claiming to be an independent sovereign state and to have achieved legal status on 21 April 1970. It remains unrecognized by Australia, however. The principality is located 354 miles north of Perth, near the town of Northampton in the state of Western Australia. It has an area of 29 square miles, making it larger than several independent countries. From airliners.net and jetphotos.net

French AF tested two OV-1Bs in 1982. During the testing both carried full French markings and were designated ABU and ABV.

They were only interested in the capability of the sensors. They were concerned that if the Germans did procure the
Mohawk with SLAR and IR that they (the French) could potentially have a former enemy looking electronically in their
    direction.
    Incorrigibles

    And its 1963/64

The evaluation just dragged on day to day but was interrupted on November 22nd the day President Kennedy was assassinated.
Wiki has this on the story:
Grumman actually signed a license production agreement with the French manufacturer Breguet Aviation in exchange for American rights to the Atlantic maritime patrol aircraft.

From French medias, the two (ABU/OV-1B and ABV/OV-1C) in flight (the complete special french registration seems to be F-MABU and F-MABV) :

from text, it seems that other aircrafts, coded ABA, ABB and ABC, were test flown in France with a mix of french roundels and US ones....no pictures found till now.

This picture of the Mi-2 was taken in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is said to be Azerbaijan air force but the roundel is more like the one from the Maldives.

    So what is it??

I think it is as old as the ones still used today. The pictures are taken in 2000 in Baku. http://smallairforces.blogspot.nl/20...2000-baku.html

Only the 2 Mi-2s have this odd roundel while others have the nowadays version, some very very fainted.
