Sounds abit disrespectful, why did the American network do that?

Watched the Diving earlier. Ashame that Great Britain came 4th as I was hoping they'd get a medal.

It used the same excuse that the IOC used for not including a moment of silence to those killed at the 1972 games...."It's supposed to be an entertainment event".

It's sad that they took that view. I thought the USA liked to commemorate things like that.

BBC's "Sports Editor" will be even more doleful, now that there's some good news to disappoint him; I wonder if he ever smiles.

GB won a Bronze in the men's rowing 8's---Rejoice !!!!!!!

But not if if you are 2 misinformed old farts like John Inverdale & Steve Redgrave !!

Their total NEGATIVE attitude & repulsive comments that we had not got Gold , spoilt it for me !!

I thought that they were about to order the crew out of the boat --& straight up against a wall to be executed .....

These 2 examples of abject misery would be better offf commenting on Zit Squeezing !!

There must be two Stephen Redgraves, then, because the one, that I saw, said that the eight could have played it safe, and won silver, but he was proud of the way they gave it their all, and it just showed how good the Germans are.

Bradley Wiggins, what an amazing athlete I was so happy that he got the gold today in the time trials! Plus a Bronze went to GB in that event also.

I'm curious now to see what the outcome will be when Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton {plus other GB athletes of course} start their campaigns inside the velodrome!

Plus a silver inside the pool tonight!

Not been a bad day all together for team GB

Interesting press conference too. He certainly has strong views on the
celebrity culture endemic in the UK.

    Noticed that as well Al!

Not sure where the seat contoversy is now, but my solution would be to shame the names of the sponsor, 'this seat bought by XXXX Ltd'. How quickly would these be filled up then?!

I really don't know what your beef is, it was not a political display at all or do you, like so many deluded Tories think that Industrial Revolution was only about industrialists and engineers getting rich and building things, that the atrocious conditions of workers never happened.

Not a major multi-culti fan, but don't deny that we do have a diverse population, incidentally possibly Tories don't like being reminded that in fact it was they who promoted the first major influx from the Caribbean in the search for cheap labour.

It was a brilliant show of our heritage warts and all, well concieved and enacted, with some tongue in cheek comedy, light entertainment and a superb finale.

How dare you call me a Tory - don't you realise that's tantamount to a racist remark hereabouts?
Any way - Tories are far too liberal for my liking...

Meanwhile, back at the thread.... What a great day GB had yesterday, some great performances but all overshadowed by Michael Phelps with now a total of 20 Olympic medals. Stunning. Mind Sir Chris did all right as well...

Having been imobilised for a time, I have nothing to do but watch the T.V. Not beeing one to watch sporting events in general, I was dubious re the Olympic Games, however, I "Got the fever" and watched quite a lot, hearing how some get up at 3 Am to train, ending at 10pm.
Every medal we won was won through nothing more than total dedication, and considering the size of some Nations choices of atheletes, from who they can pick the very best, due to the size of population, ie China 1.3 Billion, I can only think of one word to express my feelings for all those that won medals for Team G.B.

    OUTSTANDING

An amazing day overall, six gold medals and one silver.

I was so happy for Jess Ennis, especially after her injury taking her out of Beijing but now she's got the medal she truly deserves.

Mo Farah, in my view, is an inspiration to the fact that he came to our country from Somalia and has gave back to the society something truly remarkable and magical. I'm thrilled for his triumph tonight and it was such a great sprint toward the finish line, amazing!

The long jump as well - brilliant performance!

Rowing - great way to end the final day of the regatta, seeing one of the athletes shouting " WE JUST WON THE OLYMPICS! " was such a special moment.

All in all, well done for such a Special, Super, Stupendous Saturday Team GB!

It looked like a pretty rough start for team GB, things were not going well.

By yesterday (or the day before yesterday now technically!) they'd really pulled it back, and I was going to make a post about how brilliantly they'd done.

I was out all day today (Sat) and so I've only just had a chance to see the latest....

    14

    gold

    medals

    7 silver

    8 bronze

    29 in total

the best day in 104 years

these guys and girls are a real credit to themselves, and to team GB. The results speak for themselves. That said, the athletes who did not win are still extremely impressive due to the dedication they've shown in their training!
