    Anybody Else Having Problems Posting?

Almost every time I try to post, at the moment, my computer freezes-up and I have to close my browser and try again; anybody else having similar problems?

I think it is something to do with the adverts that are being run?

Same here, but, thankfully, not every time; I get it, occasionally, on another site, too.

This forum often crashes my browser - I suspect it is some sort script due to the adverts

On the other hand, never had a problem posting! My only quirk seems to be that occasionally, usually Monday mornings, the Forum isn't 'available'.

Not too many problems here, apart from when it's a maintenance issue.

I wonder if it could be a cookie issue ?. As recently new regulations came out
about websites dumping cookies on your computer. They now have to tell
you that this may happen. If you have cookies blocked, this might slow things
down. I know it does on my local newspaper's forum.

May also just be weight of traffic ?

On my Laptop, no trouble at all, also same on my Ipad 1, however, my wifes Ipad 2, frequently loses the tinternet, between 21.00 and 12 MN. However she uses her Ipad a lot more than I, as I prefer the Laptop, which incidently is a Toshiba.
Do the members who are having trouble, have the same make of Computor.?.

I doubt it; never had this problem at all until yesterday.

It has taken me five attempts to post on another thread this morning but this post worked first time.

I wondered if it was something to do with me using an older version of Microsoft Internet Explorer and the adverts being designed for newer versions? I’m loathed to ‘upgrade’ as every time I do so the new version seems to work slower and crash more often than the old!

Ongoing probs here. Never had an issue until a few days ago.

Been trying to post on P40 thread. Takes several attempts. Screen freezes, and I have to out and come back in again. Frustrating, and slow!

A colleague who is a 'lurker' not a poster said that he cannot even open the site as of two days ago.

Maybe whoever ran IT at NatWest has been sacked and now sold some dodgy software to Key...!

Andy, I had exactly the same probs as you a few weeks ago,I was using a paid for version of AVG. I managed to load a trial version of an American cleaner which picked up 5 Trojans, and many other items. All cleaned up now.
I used to think AVG was the Bees knees. Not any more. But thats just my opinion.BTW The item is called...SUPERAntiSpyware.

I use the free version of AVG, and have never had a problem with it.

Some of the trial versions of "anti virus" software, will flag up problems, then ask you to pay if you want to get rid of them.
Don't touch those with the proverbial barge pole.

    .
Alan. This was a 30 day free trial, then I did purchase it.It found probs that AVG didn't,and locked them safely in a vault, even the trial version. I suppose if we all had a large sum of money, we could invest in one that that the High Streets Banks use, mind you, you could end up like a lot of them and lose Millions, to each his own, as long as it keeps your comp free of bugs,, then that, at the end of the day. is all that matters.

Meanwhile, back at the topic, the site is crashing almost every time I visit now and requires a browser restart. This is on both a laptop running IE8 on Windows Vista and a desktop running Opera and Windows 7.

Whilst I am no Comp Geek, I have been told folks who use two, or even 3 Anti Virus programs can cause these problems, and also makes your comp slower, as they are seemingly in conflict with each other.
Norton I have been told, causes many problems.

Agreed. I started using the free Microsoft anti-virus programme alongside AVG. It's OK until they both want to do scheduled scans. That can really slow things down. I took it off again

I wouldn't use Norton either. It can take over you computer and really slow things to a crawl.

Probably teaching people to suck eggs here, but it's also worth Clicking the start button (bottom left) and where it says "Search programmes and files", type in MSCONFIG. Then click on STARTUP. (yes I know there are other ways). Make sure only the essential programmes are marked, the majority can be turned off. It won't stop them working.

Its also worth using CCleaner , a free programme to get rid of unnecessary clutter.

I’m still having problems too; it took five attempts to post the Fuel Duty U-Turn thread and I’ve started to have problems just viewing some threads (which is a new development since yesterday).

I'm running IE8 on XP. I’m pretty sure it is the adverts; what else has changed since Sunday?

just had a word with a chap who knows about these things. This is what he said.
(Guess what first time I tried to post it It froze. )

Issues like that are normally down to what version of Internet Explorer is being used – I have a lot of customers have strange issue such as that if using version 9 – and they have found reverting back to version 8 solves it – but saying that it seems a lot of people are using version 8 already – so it could be that the website is designed for version 9 and upgrading to that will solve it

If not the normal procedure would be to disable all add-ins and toolbars from Internet Explorer to see if it is one of them conflicting – this can be done by opening IE, clicking tools, internet options and then on the advanced tab choosing restore advanced settings and then clicking reset – finally restart computer and see if it then works okay

And as for the virus programs mentioned, I would definitely avoid Norton – and having more than one installed will definitely cause problems as they basically cancel each other out – AVG is the best, as confirmed in various official tests and also one I did myself recently and published on my website.

Well it was OK yesterday but it is back to normal on my laptop, i.e. crashing every visit and that's with IE9 on Vista. This is the only website that does this on a regular basis.

My desktop running Opera on windows 7 seems to be OK or at least has been for the last couple of days.

I’m having problems posting on, or even viewing, the forum again. With Internet Explorer it is unusable but it is fine with Google Chrome (which I loath). Pretty sure it’s the adverts.

Not having had a moment's problem (Chrome / Windows 7) I was heading for suggesting a switch to Chrome.

What is it you don't like about it CD?

    Mainly.....that I can’t work it!

Shame really because it seems really fast compared to Internet Explorer and I have real issues with that too, like the fact that whenever I try to close any extra tab is freezes-up!

I’m sure it’s me.....but I can’t even find ‘favourites’ (I mean ‘favorites’) on Google Chrome.

Moggy, I recently had loads of trouble with I.E. I am running Vista, however, I recently loaded, SuperAntiSpyware onto the comp, and run a scan, and it picked up 5 Trojans, which the paid for AVG failed to stop, as I had lost IE, I changed to Chrome, which I do not like, but it seems to have solved the problem, give Chrome a whirl, you may not like it, but you can go back to what you were using.
I too agree with many members re the adverts, they are a pain in the proverbial.
