Locals in Melbourne Australia complain about warbird noise

    http://moonee-valley-leader.whereili...endon-airport/

Locals dislike warbird jets that go "supersonic" ... from local airport and their the engine noise etc.

Its another issue where the local council is having a say to shut it down and move them elsewhere..

The newspaper article is hardly an objective piece of reporting, so it is impossible to discern what the real situation is.

There has been local moves to close Essendon airport for many years, also supported by past State and local MP's but rejected by the Federal Government which own it, and leased it out for a 50+49 year lease.

I'm not aware of any "supersonic" warbirds operating from the site currently? although the airworthy restoration of an ex RAAF Mirage is occuring at the site.

I suspect this will not amount to anything at all, I dont know of many airports that dont have some local group wanting to "close it down"?

Maybe they're worried about the Gnat? I would expect any such flights to occur over Bass Strait or other uninhabited areas.

The community and the council should be made to pay 100% of the costs to build a new airport elsewhere, and 100% of the costs to move all equipment... including the hangars and equipment of everyone on the airport.

They should also be made to pay for any lost business during the move.

And make sure the new airport is far enough from Essendon for it to be difficult for the whingers to use the new airport (or even work there or at any support businesses like restaurants & gas stations)... and for all the tax revenue to go elsewhere!

If they don't want the airfield there they should get no benefit of its presence whatsoever.

Quite unbelievable really the way that people buy homes close to an airfield, then get disturbed by aircraft noise.

This problem is not just applicable to aircraft, locally a small "select" estate was built with "rural" aspect and surroundings, the new owners hadn't been long in residence before they tried to close down a local pig farm, strangely they didn't enjoy the smells and sounds of their "rural" retreat.

Never occurred to these people, that for one, no locals had even thought of building or buying the properties on that estate, surprise, surprise you want to live in a rural location, it in turn has it's own sights, smells and sounds.

I moved to my present house which is within 2 miles of Filton over 20 years ago
I knew it was there and I must admit over the years it has been very noisy on occasions with various stuff. Just some was the refurb of VC10's and whatever they were doing to the F1-11's. I looked at it as a bonus as I have seen many varied and interesting types fly over my house in that time. I shall miss it when it closes.

Looking at the comments at the end it sounds like most are on the same wavelength.

I remember a case where some city folk moved into a rather nice house opposite the church. Every night the church clock chimes the hour and has done since it was installed. It can be heard for miles and is rather reassuring part of life. Needless to say they complained about personal liberties and right for peace.

You can guess the response from just about everyone and it ended in 'off'
