    The Russian 130mm guns are going as well which considering how deep this modernisation is proving to be hardly surprising. It will be interesting to see if they go for the 130mm single mount or the 76mm.

    One failure video to hundreds of successful launches...not really a problem.

    Interesting clip of CV-17 construction:

    My working week and my Sunday rest,
    My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
    I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong.

    Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
    Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:

    I like this. I'd like to see someone do something similar with footage from the 1970s HMS Ark Royal using footage from either 'Sailor' or 'Flying The Ark'.

    so their 2nd carrier is a kuznetsov variant, and they'll retire the first

    then the 3rd one will be a catobar..

    they're going to buy totally different set of aircrafts and operations?

    Gradual improvement. Probably think that STOBAR is too limiting, so intend to use it as familiarisation with carrier operations to reduce the time taken to get their first cat & trap carrier fully operational after it's built. I wouldn't be surprised it they're aiming at Chinese aircraft to fly from it. Then they can build a few more the same.

    What? Liaoning isn't going anywhere, they're just building more carriers.

    China's future CATOBAR carrier(s) will operate a new J-15 variant, fixed-wing AEW, and eventually -- undoubtedly -- a new VLO combat aircraft. Plus the usual array of helicopters.

    Aren't they already testing a CATOBAR version of the J-15 with modified undercarriage? Perhaps a future version with AESA is likely too, similar to the modifications we've seen for J-16D.

    I think we can safely assume that J-15A(?) will include a range of systems updates in parallel with the ongoing evolution of J-11/16 over the period.

    Apparently last year a J-15D made us maiden flight with similar arrangement that J-16D had. Unfortunately we don't have photos of it, but if it is real I think it will be very interesting to see if it's landing gear is also meant for catapult launch like J-15A

    ... and if it is based on the twin-seater J-15S (similar to the J-16D) or if it will be a single seater!?

    Well if it's called J-15D and if it's similar to J-16D in the same way, and considering its supposed intended role... well I strongly doubt it would be a single seater.

    In other words a J-15 growler. Imagine how difficult it would be to develop modern EW/ECM aircraft that a single person can operate.

    So based on the J-15S, that should be a no brainer. I'd be sooooo surprised if it was a single seater, unless the aircraft ends up being different to what we all envision for it.

    Indeed a handsome and impressive design; the main-issue however is simply that concerning Russian hardware and esp. such a mega-project - they are and will remain WHAT-IFs!
