    Has there been any more images of the Sovremenny upgrade yet? In many ways I find that more interesting than the CV-17 launch!

    The most recent pictures are from December I think. The full extent of the MLU is yet to be known, but a bow HHQ-10 is confirmed as well as 2x8 cell 054A VLS at the front replacing the bow shtil launcher. It is likely there is at least another 2x8 054A VLS replacing the aft shtil launcher.
    Sea Eagle radar has also replaced top plate.

    There is some speculation about whether the universal VLS might make an appearance on the Sovs but imo it's unlikely. The new AShM canisters to replace Moskits have yet to be seen.

    I really like the superstructure. It looks slick. Dunno if the picture is decieving but the the deck looks far more larger in areal, is it wider?
    Thanks

    My working week and my Sunday rest,
    My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
    I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong.

    The stars are not wanted now; put out every one:
    Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
    Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:
    For nothing now can ever come to any good.

    Is she a sister ship of the Admiral Kuznetsov and Liaoning? She seems to be the same general design, but maybe its the camera angle but the island looks farther forward than on either of the other two.

    CV-17 has the same overall configuration, but there are likely some internal changes, and also of course the island is the most obvious external change from CV-16. CV-17's island is redesigned and has a smaller deck footprint as well.

    64 Universal VLS in the front. That means 055 has the entire missile load of a 052D in the bow itself. Rear VLS is believed to be at least 48 tubes.

    So the 055 is not as radical a departure from previous designs as some thought it was going to be, for example no 3D L band rotating long range radar. It looks to be in effect a scaled up 052D.

    @fedaykin

    well, the VSR question is still being debated. There are a number of mysterious antennaes around the bridge superstructure that is prompting speculation, and especially the two solid looking protrusions (one under the on the side of the ship which were first thought to be vents... but on closer inspection have been thought to be antennae for EW purposes or maybe even meter wave radars.

    That said, whether a VSR is present on the ship or not would not have really been a radical departure from 052D or not (considering 052D has the UHF yagi type 517B as VSR, so technically the lack of an aft rotating VSR on 055 is a departure from 052D), it's the totality of the ship's new sensors and the way they've been positioned, how they're integrated with combat management, and command/control. And of course the much bigger hull and more VLS.

    Going from a 7,000 ton DDG to an almost 13,000 ton DDG is quite a radical departure by any definition imo

    Well the 052C & 052D used that rotating Yagi antenna (VHF?) for long range search (including low RCS targets?). The 055 doesn't seem to have that installed. They might add it later-on or maybe something entirely new.
