Typhoon sonic boom behind mysterious bang reports - MoD
A loud bang which sparked a deluge of calls to emergency services across a large part of England was a sonic boom from a Typhoon aircraft, the MoD said.

“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'!”
I think it's fine here as it's abit more unusual as it caused quite a stir with people in its locality.
There was quite a big discussion on fightercontrol about it, looks like some of them listened to it all unfold on their scanners.

The people in the helicopter must have had a bit of a shock !
It involves a Eurofighter, but it's not really about the Eurofighter at this stage, so it probably is best in its own thread IMO![]()
The helo operator will get a bigger shock when MoD sends them the bill.
Any-one have an idea what this was, floating around while those Typhoons were inspecting/intercepting that accidental distress signal then? Is it a flare?
Wasn't sure, but some-one would have a good idea?

Serious Question? What part of the Typhoon isn’t ‘Modern Military Aircraft’? Some posters need to get a life.!
Good Post, reminds me of one of a pair of Binbrook Lightnings that creased the wing of a General Aviation Aircraft that had to land at Humberside airport after intercept.
QRA again, oh great it’s the NAAFI dance tonight.![]()
Probably a solar or mylar balloon? The UFO / Conspiracy crowd are going bananas over those images. You just have to look at the Mexican 'UFO' video footage over the years to see how such balloons can be completely misinterpreted. The blow up image showing the wiggle is acknowledged by the photographer as being camera shake.
A UFO? really? Things must have been quiet for them to think that is anything other than a balloon, and I love a good conspiracy me.
We don't have enough drama over our heads these days.
The QRA Pilots must be having a right old chuckle at the UFO / Conspiracy crowd!

Looking at the flickr pictures there are a couple that do look like Typhoon fighters to me. The others because of the limitations of the camera and the aircraft wheeling and turning changing its profile give a false impression of them being UFO''s as claimed
