Waddington airshow: advice needed..

Hello all,
this summer I plan to visit the Waddo airshow, as it is conveniently taking place in the same weekend as FL at Duxford..

Can anyone unveil the possibilities of taking pictures during the show, and what's the best spot to be (no I won't stand in front of YOU

Secondly: I have read some horrifying reports on the trip to the show: even that people were not able to get there at all.....

What's your experience?

I've been infrequently over the past few years.

I took these last year from the Silver Wings enclosure. You are looking into sun a lot early in the day but later the light is nice (if the sun comes out!)

As far as traffic is concerned, we came in from the south but took a detour to be on the east side of the airfield. Traffic was OK for us but I believe a nightmare for others - get there early!

You could always consider the helicopter shuttle that operates from the local air museum!!

I haven't been to a Waddington show for a number of years, but I found that the show went on for a long time and the flying included stuff I didn't want to see. So I bought a programme, worked out the bits I wanted to see and looked around the static in between times. When an item came up that I wanted to see I went down to the end of the runway, ie the end of the runway where the take-offs started, and took my photos of the aeroplane taking off, landing and displaying. You might need a small stepladder.

I havet been for a few years I was in the disabled area but getting out after the show took a long time, they packed the cars in but did not organise departure so getting out was chaotic
for photography I liked being at the runway end by the road.

Anybody visiting please come and say hello at the Waddo Flying Club stand. We usually have four a/c on the static display and a tombola to raise money for charities. Win a bottle of genuine wine with sparkly bits!!

I'd recommend the longest lens you can get your hands on if you have an SLR and if you can afford it a monopod and decent (7 element) 2x converter
