japan is one of the leading aircraft builders again with Russia,USA,Sweden,China.
They have already developing two aircraft types ,both developed by Kawasaki
A cargo plane and a anti submarine patrol aircraft
I can only say keep the good work!

Not really that surprising with developments in China, Russia and South Korea going apace along with the F22 denied as an option they had no choice to look towards a domestic replacement for the F15.

Remember the F35 is a replacement for the F4 in Japanese service, also with F2 production winding down MHI needed a new project to push forward with. Whilst it is a domestic project I fully expect to see manufacturers (American in particular) vying to be technology partners in the project.

What are the Japanese boys doing still flying F-4? That thing is MiG-21 era plane. I would have expected more from Japan.

The F4 is still a very capable platform.

Because as others have said it is still a very capable platform that performs its primary roles more then adequately. Also it is a 1960's design but that doesn't remove the fact that they are very much 80's and 90's when it comes to the avionics inside the airframe.

    Thumbs up

Ah.....excellent news! Even better that they are going 100% local!

I just hope they won't cave-in to external pressure like with the F-2.

Good call on Japan's part. I hope they don't get into any form of partnership to avoid external influence. But I suspect that they have learnt the lesson from the F2.
