    Pictures of Lancaster ED328 SR-S

    Hi

I am trying to find any pictures of Lancaster ED328 SR-S. This plane was based at Ludford Magna with 101sqn. My Uncle was one of the crew who were killed in action in the plane in August 1943 on a raid over Berlin. I would be interested to know if any pictures of the plane or the Crew exist other than the 1 on the AWM website.

    thanks

Hi Ian, and welcome to the forum.

Up until a few years ago I maintained a reasonably comprehensive database of Lancaster photos in published sources. I say "reasonably comprehensive" because I am a sucker for all things Bomber Command and the Lancaster in particular and so just about any new book offering good facts and/or a good selection of photos would inevitably end up on my bookshelf.

I still trawl the internet occasionally and have picked up a few good photo references in that way but, the days of new books offering such treats is behind us, in my opinion, and so I tend not to buy the latest publications and my database may be a bit out of date as a result.

Sad to report, however, I have not tracked down a photo of ED328. In fact photos of any Lancaster from that fairly early contract are few and far between. I was going to add that the secret nature of 101 Squadron's special duties may have made it even harder to take an illicit snap but when I looked at ED328's history, it would appear to have been lost before the Squadron became equipped with A.B.C.

A photo may exist out there somewhere and it does no harm to advertise for it. Good luck and please let us have a peek at it if you are successful!

Thanks for the info, i will keep looking, i wondered if anyone has any Ludford Pix from that time(mid 1943) and any ground crew who worked on that plane.
It is 70 years next year of the crash and I would like to put something together for my Mother and Uncle to comemorate it.

    thanks

    Ianh
