Yes the H+S reaction to a public splinter victim at DX doesn't bare thinking about. All those Hi-viz jackets again and the headlines... "Children injured by WW2 bomber (lookalike-sort-of) in playground carnage impailment incident." Oh and of course it will be on the sealed bid disposals bid list in about 5 years time when it gets rotten, despite it's historic value "WWll Bomber, service record at Duxford, many missions, visible battle damage buyer collects. Must sell to make way for new H+S approved "Virtual" playground experience" Add to cart...

Nice to see Brian smiling whilst "wearing a Bus" at Duxford, it wasn't always that way...

That's a caption contest winner for me - LOL.

Slightly higher viz than the other one - hard to miss. He was only smiling to the point where he realised he'd left his camera bag in Wing Co Joe's...

A superb shot that ticks all the boxes for me.

Interesting configuration, flaps down and wheels part way in cycle. Landing or more likely going round again?

    Duxford Sunday 22nd July:

First sighting today of the new Classic Wings Tiger Moth:

    0791:G-ANZZ / DE974

DE974 is G-ANZZ, out of use since 1969. Famous as 'The Archbishop', one of the Tiger Club's aerobatic modified Tigers, it has the distinction of an inverted Channel crossing. Seen here many years ago:

    G-ANZZ

Another beautiful biplane today. Visiting from Antwerp was Stearman N1035M:

    0792:N1035M

    0793:N1035M

    0794:N1035M

The Stearman was in company with Belgian based Stampe G-AIYG:

    0795:G-AIYG

Buchon G-AWHE posed in the sunshine before a departure North:

    0796:G-AWHE

The grass at Duxford is very springy at the moment:

    0797:G-BJST / KF729

And of course, Spitfire Tr.9 G-ILDA/SM520 spent a few hours in the circuit:

    0798:G-ILDA / SM520

Perhaps the 'Lancaster' should be converted into a 'Heinkel' Then they can hide the evidence from the HSE by painting it in splinter camouflage!

Monday 23rd - A Quiet Day At Duxford.

2x T9 Spitfire's up and down like yo-yo's all day. Mk VIII Spitfire(D-FEUR) left for home, HAC Nimrod went up for an air test and was taking off again as I left. OFMC P-51 'Frankie' flew with some aerobatics thrown in and a Cy-29(HA-YAO) arrived first thing and parked up in the ARCo compound and the Catalina did some low power engine runs. Apart from that, and Classic Wings flying, a quiet and sunny day and BT still haven't fixed my phone line yet so no piccies.

According to her crew at Farnborough, Miss Pick Up is of to 'Ramenskoye' for the 100th Anniversary of the Russian Air Force celebrations being held at Zhukovsky on the weekend of 11/12 August.

It would have been a double bonus if she could have been painted up in Soviet markings - either as a PBY-6A or a PBN-1 Nomad - or even as a PBY-1.

But I'll take her as she is - I'm looking forward to it - it looks like being a good show.....

    Duxford Tuesday 24th July:

Ferocious Frankie departed to the Weston-Super-Mare airshow, in company with the ARCo Spitfire Tr.9:

    0805:G-BTCD / 413704

    0806:G-BTCD / 413704, G-CCCA / QV-I

Meanwhile, it was the turn of the Grace Spitfire Tr.9 G-LFIX/ML407 to pose in the sunshine:

    0807:G-LFIX / ML407

    0808:G-LFIX / ML407

Another look at Classic Wings latest Tiger Moth G-ANZZ / DE974:

    0809:G-ANZZ / DE974

A pair of Apaches stopped by for fuel:

    0810:ZJ194

    0811:ZJ168

Finally, there was a request for Gladiator news. Nothing new.....

Dx 25/7/2012 - Very hot at DX today and fairly quiet apart from a sortie by Spitfire QV-I and the Classic Wings aircraft. Only visitor of note was the Jubilee scheme Tucano ZF269.

    Duxford Thursday 26th July:

More Spitfires have arrived and are positioned by the new Control Tower. Clearly a later mark than the first pair, these seem to be the long range escort version, with twin fuselages like the F-82. The elliptical wing has been retained, and they could be two-seaters (height restrictions may apply).
I'm surprised that Mark 12 has been silent on this remarkable project....

If anybody ever tells you anything about an aeroplane which is so bloody complicated you can't understand it, take it from me: It's all balls. RJM.
