it had me for some time why they have tested it for so many times in Chengdu. Institute 611 is not a good place you test a prototype, it draw too much attention and when things go wrong, the government also dont want 20 tons of fuel shoot into a village(especially when the progress bar is where we all think it be). Yanliang seems a better choice. Or, whether 2001 and 2002 are there just for the wall climbers and in fact a propaganda diversion ? The real test ground should be somewhere else. As far as i understand, a thing with so many parts can move, the control software is kinda hard, and takes a significant amount of configuration time to make it even flyable.

you just noticed that now? i think everyone acknowledges the entire front fuselage is strongly influenced by the F-22. Just like how the canopy of the Pak-fa is similar to the X-32

No it was obvious to anyone with eyes, at least the vague similarity (something not uncommon to fighters designs). However, those photos look a lot more than "vaguely" similar.

A lot more similar than T-50 and X-32 cockpit, that is for sure.

are you referring to the location of the holes?

No, glass shape and outline, also protrusions within canopy frames. Ignore the holes around the actual body, the circles are not mine, I think someone used the photos for another purpose originally.

hmm yes they are mightly similar. but you have to admit.. the F-22 has the best bubble canopy of the 5th gen designs.. better rear view than YF-23, X-32, Pak-fa, F-35. China might as well copy the best. Only thing lacking is the metal coating.

Rear view mirror works just fine.

I wager that would occur by 2 more years at the most. a bunch of J-10 prototypes were built between 1998 and 2001

The main landing gear doors on J-20 are in two sections. Small ones (visible on 2002 pic above f.e.) open upwards , but the bigger ones open downward. It's just 2002 had the bigger ones closed through the take-off/landing (and most of the ground testing, whereas 2001 usually have them open on the ground/taxiing /take-off/landing) .

There's a video few posts back clearly showing 2002 landing gear doors are pretty much same as 2001.

Btw, congrats to CAC for another milestone .

Someone was saying in another thread that the fact that 2002 has a pitot , it meens it won't have an AESA installed ( or at least it will only have a MSA).

Looking on the net , i found two AESA equipped aircraft that still have a pitot, F-2A and MiG-35. Perhaps there is a way to "cancel" the effect of pitot tube on and AESA anyway ( software?).

PESA equipped a/c like MiG31 and Su-30MKI also have pitot ( dunno how relevant that is or not).

I've been puzzled why did they moved the pitot though. If it doesn't have a radar in afterall , maybe it will have a dielectrical radome ( to test it ), but they didn't wanted to make a hole in it to put the pitot in the same position as on 2001?

Or maybe the position of the pitot influenced too much the aerodinamic testing results, so they moved in on the radome tip to minimise it's effects?

    Just thinking out loud.

What is this? Paint degradation from overheating/damage or just an optical effect?

yes, could be paint degradation, but that would mean they screwed up something if that hapenned due to heat stress. Seems to be present on some photos. Is it important somehow?
