I hate it that we are not developing an ICBM, Prolly not to irk the Americans. Still....

Finally something that's competitive wrt China.Another distinctive feature is its ‘canisterisation’. Hermetically sealed into an airtight canister that is mounted on a flatbed truck, the missile can be easily transported and fired quickly, by hydraulically raising the canister into the vertical firing position. Made from high-strength maraging steel, the canister must absorb enormous stresses during firing, when a thrust of 300-400 tonnes is generated to eject the 50-tonne missile The canister also provides a hermitically sealed atmosphere, in which the missile is stored safely for years.

I don't think India needs ICBM for now. India should and will focus on Agni series of missiles, especially Agni-3, Agni-2Prime and Agni-5 and their logistics. ICBM will raise alarm bells in friendly countries without serving any purpose. Although Agni-5 test will be interesting and it will be interesting to see reactions from various countries.

same reason UK or france keeps a nuclear deterrent. something like "who knows if we might need it one day". the memories of a certain 7th fleet in 1971 are still alive in the strategic quarters of delhi. moreover there is no way anyone can predict what path global politics would take tomorrow.
it won't be a high priority but you can bet that the scientists would continue to improve range, counter measures and accuracy.
