I/D,s of 4 Skeeters at IHM...

    hi,
i was lucky enough to be at the IHM on 27th April when the 4 stored Skeeters were removed from the container into the museum workshop whilst container was repositioned.I/D,s read off confirmed -
    XN345-S2.7070.
    XL767-S2.3874.
    XM557-S2.7055.
    ...... -S2.3357.

only c/n for the 4th,enquiry to museum office confirmed these 3 serial numbers nothing for the 4th,but their c/n differed from above, they quoted

    XN345-S2.7151.
    XL767-S2.5080.
    XM557-S2.5112.

and for the 4th serial of i think Aeroventure at Doncaster,s Skeeter XM561,but did say that this one was in doubt,as it matched Aeroventures.
IHM also had 2 booms from XL736 and XM530 so this 4th one could be one of these 2...
The 4 pods plus booms were aquired Saxmundham? and before that Germany.

Now as i,ve retired, trying to sort log,s etc ,and as these Skeeters are in deep storage for years i thought i,d try to nail them,so can i throw out the challenge - help please...

    thanks and regards
    jack...

A bit of thread drift but my father worked for Saunders Roe at Eastliegh where the prototype Skeeter was made.

As a young lad I used to go with him on saturday mornings to work. On this occasion I was admiring the skeeter prototype when all of a sudden the whole perspex? windscreen shattered. my immediate response was, "I did not touch it!!" Dad said dont worry its been doing that a lot lately!!

Ah Jack...Suspect you fell into the trap of reading off a component serial number rather than the actual aircraft con. no.

There has been four Skeeter booms in an old derelict shed for years just outside Saxmundham in Suffolk they were XL736,XL767,XM530 and XN345.
But a few monthes ago i had noticed they had gone.

Beside this old shed is a larger building which was very hard to see into but i did see a Scout and maybe a Skeeter in there about 2 or 3 years ago.

Glad these Skeeter booms are safe as i was worried the shed might collapse on them or scrappies would get their hands on them.

    Regards - Graham

Only the fourth one at THM is in doubt ,because the c/n plate is missing. The other three have been verified as the museum has available the full c/n list and histories.A small number of the ex-German airframes have gone missing over recent years and this No.4 can only be one of those...but which one ?
