Certainly a pretty a little thing. Good way of putting the reasonably good manufacturing skills of the old military industrial complex to good use in the civilian sector too. But surely they could have come up with something more imaginative than Superjet?

Guess this is to go against the EMB 175/190 ,Bombardier Aerospace C thing and A318.

What airlines have ordered this nice looking plane. Will we see it over here at all?

Livery goes from Sergey Pirozhkov's AstraRossa industry design company, IMHO it's too sparky and copmplicated, especially I didn't like nose area (no one likes, I must admit). Contract for new livery was inspired by Mr.Pirozhkov's personal friend, Russia's Minister of economics and trade German Gref (ex- already), who said that initial SuperJet livery is 'not so good as Dreamliner's one'. Pirozhkov worked for Citroen from 1994 (Xsantia X2 interior, C5, C3 Lumiere concept, C3 Air, C6 Lignage, C4 Volcane, Xsara restyling and then, from 2000, for Toyota european design center (Yaris, Auris, Corolla, Avensis, MTRC and UUV concepts); he also created this stuff as well http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive...ue-impression/. Contract for new livery cost in words of SCA was 100-150 kilobucks. Pirozhkov now wants to make interior for Sukhoy SSBJ and new Roskosmos Soyuz...

what u means imaginative ? add thrust vectoring and being the first airliner capable of cobra maneuver ? using KM-36DM as passenger seat for increased safety ? :diablo:
unfortunately the conservative airliner dont like those features.... for them nowadays it is fuel/km that matter.....

I think he was referring to the name of the aircraft, not the technology inside it.

Nice Thanks for creating this new thread.

As to Boeing and Airbus getting scared they need not be An-148 and An-158 is not competing with their product line , well Embrarer and Bombardier may be scared

    hello thar.

now why would customers want an high wing variant? same like that BAe aircraft with 4 engines. cabin comfort must be bad.

I can see it being a good cargo aircraft or a military one.

what about Il-114? is that dead too?

and why is Tu-204 considered dead (TR1's comment).
why was Tu-334 not successful? it seemed like an interesting design.

    Hello

Well high mounted wings and low mounted wing have their own pluses and minus , every design bureau tries to work on design they are more experienced and comfortable with , Antonov have long experience with high mounted wing.

From end customer prospective what would matter is Life Cycle Cost , Fuel Saving ,Comfort and MRO/Spares for the type it is operating , An-148 is bought by customer world over because it scores well on those point and operating customers can generate profit.

The new 100 seater An-158 is even better , it uses 9 % less fuel and 12 % reduced direct operating cost

I can see it being a good cargo aircraft or a military one.
    They have An-178 as new cargo type on plans ( ~ 25 T payload ) and An-168 as business jet variant.( 12 - 40 pax )

and why is Tu-204 considered dead (TR1's comment).
Its certainly not dead , there are 45 Tu-204SM on order for Red Wings and it has been chosen as a type to replace many government asset of older type.

But yes it did not generate great sales and recently it lost the Iran order due to sanctions imposed on the use of PS-90A2 engine which has P&W components.

why was Tu-334 not successful? it seemed like an interesting design.
Yeah it was but the prospect of selling SSJ was deemed much better in local and international market and Tu-334 was shelved.
