now why would customers want an high wing variant? same like that BAe aircraft with 4 engines. cabin comfort must be bad.
Well high mounted wings and low mounted wing have their own pluses and minus , every design bureau tries to work on design they are more experienced and comfortable with , Antonov have long experience with high mounted wing.
From end customer prospective what would matter is Life Cycle Cost , Fuel Saving ,Comfort and MRO/Spares for the type it is operating , An-148 is bought by customer world over because it scores well on those point and operating customers can generate profit.
The new 100 seater An-158 is even better , it uses 9 % less fuel and 12 % reduced direct operating cost
I can see it being a good cargo aircraft or a military one.
They have An-178 as new cargo type on plans ( ~ 25 T payload ) and An-168 as business jet variant.( 12 - 40 pax )
and why is Tu-204 considered dead (TR1's comment).
Its certainly not dead , there are 45 Tu-204SM on order for Red Wings and it has been chosen as a type to replace many government asset of older type.
But yes it did not generate great sales and recently it lost the Iran order due to sanctions imposed on the use of PS-90A2 engine which has P&W components.
why was Tu-334 not successful? it seemed like an interesting design.
Yeah it was but the prospect of selling SSJ was deemed much better in local and international market and Tu-334 was shelved.
