How one can claim J-20 has "crude fuselage topology" by looking at these pictures is beyond me..
Also, a great comparison picture from CDF:

They are certainly proud about their J20 over at Sinodefence forum when referring to its impending flight as a historic occasion.
Some even even claiming that its a "kick ****" plane that in time, will dominate anything the West currently has or projected to have.

No doubt a lot of fanboys have been showing up there, as there are many more people been viewing this thread. One should not let a few remarks from fanboys be the final judgement of that forum besides its not a Chinese forum but rather English.

Well that settles things.
There are indeed two prototypes, just like with the Pak-Fa's.
Only question for now is; is only one of them approved for test flight or are both approved?
Thanks
The English-language Global Times newspaper, which is published by the Chinese Communist Party, has broken China's media silence on the J-20 program today. The story is headlined "Rumored stealth jet undergoes tests: report", and is careful to not confirm or deny the J-20's existence. China also seems to be trying hard to avoid looking provocative. The Global Times article quotes a Chinese military expert, Li Daguang, who pours cold water on comparisons of the J-20 to the Lockheed Martin F-22.

The pictures of the nozzles look like they're from a J-11B. They have a tail sting. Yes looks like they might have two J-20 prototypes.

Yes ... but both pictures were posted to compare the WS-10A and the AL-31F as fitted to the Flanker in comparison to the strange J-20-pictures !

although i would say it certainly looks impressive and struggle with some of the criticism of the system (given how little we know).
indeed... or perhaps this whole "J-20" story the recent days, with first grainy photos then gradually better photos, no official comments, and then finally an "honest" comment that is downplaying the whole thing is designed to lure the US into believing that they still have a significant lead.
Also consider:
http://focustaiwan.tw/ShowNews/WebNe...D=201101050035Shen confirmed that China has been developing its fifth-generation fighters but said the aircraft shown in the photos do not appear to be that system.
So perhaps we are not talking about the J-20 in this thread but another a/c, perhaps a bit more similar to the F-35? And perhaps the "real" J-20 (perhaps designed to be an air-superiority F-22 killer) has not been revealed yet. It could be that the West is underestimating the Chinese when it comes to development of stealth a/c:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-0...n-of-u-s-.htmlVice Admiral Jack Dorsett, the head of Navy intelligence, said yesterday that the Pentagon had underestimated the speed at which China has developed and fielded a ballistic missile that may be capable of hitting a maneuvering U.S. aircraft carrier. Dorsett said it was too early to tell whether the U.S. also has misjudged China’s capability to build a stealth fighter jet.
“We’ve been on the mark on an awful lot of our assessments but there has been a handful of things we have underestimated,” Dorsett told defense reporters.
A lot of people have commented that the "J-20" referred to in this thread looks more like a bomber than an a2a fighter. To me that begs the question; what will China's a2a stealth fighter look like? How will it compare to F-22 (just forget about F-35...). And when will it be revealed?
i love a good conspiracy theory!
although it is likely that this aircraft is actually a technology demonstrator that will feed into the "5th generation" programmes.
this is perhaps why official chinese reaction to the photos is so muted.
even so, on a fundamental level i think the existence of this aircraft is something which merits serious consideration. I see this as more of a proof of concept rather than a design aimed at challenging the in production F22. Afterall, its not in direct competition with another design and represents a serious departure from the normal standard of chinese fighter design.
A close up, judge for yourselves. To me, it doesn't look like any of the usual suspects. The shiny, seemingly equal sized petals look like the WS-10, but they seem to be able to constrict more than the WS-10, more like the AL-31, in previous pics. The prominent ring of "dots" is unlike any other engine. Some engines do have ring(s) of "dots" around the nozzle, but none quite like this.

It can be an WS-10GAccording the news it should be ready 2012+
Could they reach the targeted trust or reliability its unknown! Or is it WS-10G??

Does anyone have a view of the wing planform?
To try and get an estimate for Mach cone (approx design speed), wing area (wing loading) and maybe get a feel for what this thing is really designed for...

well,
they have set up the port-a-potties, roll out the red carpet, and first flight guys have some weird uniform on that comes straight out of a sci-fi film.
First Flight tomorrow.![]()
I will not very surprised if they have this first flight on national television live.
the 737 landing is from 34th Air Division, airforce, military and civilian VIP transport duty,
Enjoy
...
p.s.
the guys are calling it the "Star Destroyer", now the uniform finally matches. hurrah!
If that is big IF they use a variable DSI, then...
go look at any of these clean frontal shots and tell me were the diverter is? it is clearly a DSI design.
a moving "bump" doesn't mean you necessarily need a diverter. if the mach scheduled moving "bump" does the job of moving the boundary layer away and still has good pressure recorvery and alpha/beta sensitivies then why would it need a diverter?
looks much smaller from this angle...
and very looong LEX
from that last image it realy looks like they took the rearand wing off the boeing x32 and mated it to the f35 (canards exluded of course)!
