Free-loaders paradise that's the place for me.
That land in Valhalla where everything is free.
Just thinking about that Court Line interior as one of the big selling points of the Court / Clarksons package was their 'seat back' catering. IIRC there was two compartments (outbound / inbound) in the back of each seat and passengers could serve themselves! Presumably the cabin crew where then left free to serve drinks / sell Duty Free etc.
Is that right or is my memory playing tricks again?
Cant remember the catering i was only 7
but i remember that we were sat 2nd row and when the hostess closed the door the guy on the front row passed out!!!!!
[QUOTE=nigelrob;1894304]I think that the Court line livery would still stand on its own today, but wether or not it would look just as good on an A320 or 737.....I'm not so sure.
BTW, if you don't already know, here is a very good book all about the history of Court, the people, and the planes. Its called 'Colours in the Sky' It used to crop up occasionally on ebay, and fetch silly money. Its a fascinating story, and even has a good history of Autair, before they 'morphed' into Court Line. If you've an interest in the airline, grab a copy, its cracking read, and the pics aren't bad either![]()

[QUOTE=MSR777;1894668]Thanks for the tip. As a youngish lad I used to visit Luton Airport a lot and remember well Autair becoming Court Line. I was lucky to see the last of the Autair fleet flying (Ambassadors, BAC 1-11 200/300??) before the change to the larger 1-11's and ultimately 2 x TriStars.
Somewhere have the flight guide from a flight with them in 1972 and it makes a big thing of their 'holiday colours' - which featured on their express coaches too.
Although it wouldn't be authentic, I've often wondered about the British Airways 1-11 at Duxford being repainted in Court colours!
Great to see the Court Line 1,11, that particular aircraft was painted in the lilac scheme, which I think appeared on the last two 1,11's ZEB and ZEC.
The interiors were painted to match the exteriors and even years later you could still see evidence of this on the British World 1,11-518's.
Props are best!
I also loved to see the Court jets climbing out of Luton departing for hot and sunny destinations with lovely beaches and golden sands. I used to wish I could be on board one of them, rather than at school doing pointless and boring stuff.
I used to think it was such a nice thing to see airliners painted in pretty pastel colours with silver and white to set them off. Luton outbound aircraft used to fly over my home and there were often colourful aeroplanes in the sky, like the Court Line One Elevens and the yellow Monarch Britannia turboprops. The colours (for me) said, holidays and good adventures. Even before Court's pastel fleet of jets the sky held the blue planes of Autair (One Elevens and Ambassadors).
Back in circa 1971 there were lots of colourful planes flying around. We also saw colourful aeroplanes from Heathrow, like the northeast Airlines Tridents in overall yellow and grey. Also there were overall red One Elevens of Cambrian Airways.
Strange that all of the wonderfully painted, colourful aircraft were British built types.
Here is an evocative picture of part of the fleet in 1973 after the airline went under.

That picture is not when Courtine went under
There is an early livery Dan Air One-Eleven...a Britannia Airways Britannia and BAC One-Eleven 400 G-AWBL the ony Autair aircraft to join Court and only for the first year.
That pic must be 1969 probably at it's launch.
Ref that apron shot of these Court 1-11s, I think it's also on the cover of a book that I have, called something like World Airline Colour Schemes. It's one of a very good 3 part series of books, published in the late 70s early 80s. I remember that it was published by Airline Publications and Sales, Noble Corner, Great West Road Hounslow. I believe that the company eventually became Collectors Aircraft Models at the Skyline Hotel Heathrow, now gone out of business.

Interesting photos.
I think the 1960s SAA livery looked really nice on the Boeings, but I had never seen it gracing a Viscount before.

Some very nice shots there Peter. It looks like that BAF Viscount was sharing the ramp with an Interflug Il18. I used to do loadheets for that Air UK F28. I always wondered wether there was any Russian involvement with Greenair.
"Behold! The Wings of Horus"
Good afternoon,
Thank you all for your nice comments. Yes, MSR777, there was an Interflug IL-18 present. The Rapid fans flew with this one, a Balkan Tu-154 and three Tarom TU-154s, as you can see on the photograph of the GAF Nomad.
According to Wikipedia, Greenair was founded in 1990 to fly Turkish expatriate workers and tourists from destinations in Germany and Paris, London, Milan and Amsterdam to Turkey. This airline was a join venture with Russian investors and thus used Soviet built aircraft. The first aircraft was the Tupolev Tu-154, followed by the Tupolev Tu-134, which it planned to use on scheduled services between Istanbul and Moscow; but those plans could not be carried out. In December 1994 Green Air ceased operations, but was reactivated in 1995 as Active Air. That venture also went out of business a year later.
Here are two more photos.
1. DDR-STO: Ilyushin IL-18D, Interflug
2. PH-HAG: GAF N24A Nomad, Holland Aero Lines with the three Tarom Tu-154s visible.
Kind regards,
Peter
Thanks for that Greenair info Peter. I flew on an Interflug Il18 in 1987 LGW-SXF-TIA.
