    Couple of olduns

I put these three old shots on another site running in a similar vain to this one but after 17 hits it did'nt seem to stir the porridge a bitso wonder if they'll switch the light on here enough for anyone to stir.

Those 'members' on that other site obviously do not appreciate the finer points of airliner history Great shots and more anytime please. BTW I used to work the Worldway DC8s thru STN back in the 80s before it changed to the Tristar, and for one summer we worked the DC8-62s of Hawaiian Air every week, that used to draw great numbers of spotters!

Thanks for looking and it eventually caught someone's attention on the other site.I was telling them how I used to stop at the small ind.,est next to the 07 approach end and go into the now late Ian Mcfarlanes alladins cave of aviation goody's.
There was a carousel tree in the shop with all sorts of slides for sale of civil and Mil., types and wish now in hindsight I had bought some of his stuff as he didn't mind how they may have been used once sold so long as he got credited. The little photo must have brought back some memories of your days on shift at STN as you could help yourself those days to any left over meals if you didn't want to cough up for your own lunch.
Glad you liked the manx one EGTC and have a horrible feeling I have chucked the baby out with the bath water when I had to clear the garage out and there was a box full of old slides in amongst that lot that might have gone to the tip.anyway back to the search of steptoe's back yard alias the garage to try and allay my worst thoughts. All those years running up and down the country with nothing but a warm glow inside thinking some of my best work is in that box to be summed up by the other half by saying is'nt it time you got rid of some of that"sh..e" as you never look at itOnly to be followed with "is this all your going to do" for the rest of the day when you have found some gems and you are trying to recall those happier times.Cheers..JB

Hi keith and JT442 am glad you both liked and after much soul searching in the garage the disapointment was evident having found no trace of my last bag or box of slides that would have contained probably the last few of my early civvy slides.yeh the early stuff is nice to see so you never know someone else my hunt out some more gems,CheersJB. Nice to know the name of that hangar type

Looking back through me 'logs' I worked that 1-11 G-WLAD on turnround at STN back in the mid 80s, flying for an outfit called Airways Cymru.

cloudspotter, darren, yes thats it. It was wearing the all over blue scheme when we worked it. I really enjoy the pics of the older stuff BTW I passed my SAS load controllers licence examination working a DC9-40 turnround. Was I nervous? you bet!

Glad you liked them Interflug 62M. I took these photos as a kid which - apart from the MEA 707 at Heathrow - were taken at Stansted (my local field along with Luton at the time).

Hey Darren.... if you were taking these as a kid I hope your taking photos for a living as that B/Cal Tri star with brakes and smoke is beautiful. At the moment I'm in retro mode listening to Dire straits and Telegraph Road looking at your photo's and it's been an eye opener to your skills.
So back to well a long time ago came a man with a camera on his back Ha,ha ..Cheers..JB

Yep your on the money civilspotter about that error and I keep making the same mistake over and over with that one.Anyhow that dan air 727 is now a world famous photo as theres no mistaking to a sighting of the same photograph I saw in the second issue of "classic airliner" in Smiths this afternoon.

The Bristol freighter is a very nostalgic shot and I remember one of these as a kit to build and a certain viewer will find the il 62 bearing his site name interesting. Thanks for sharing such good scans from the past .Cheers,.JB.

Thanks for your comments The Eh Team and Civilspotter. Nice shots yourself Civilspotter - the CAA HS748 takes me back.

The Caledonian DC10 was doing circuits that day and I just got lucky with the one approach I decided to take a photo. I can still remember the noise and the screeching as it hit the ground really hard.

Afraid photography isn't my career The Eh Team, but there are plenty of projects in the can so to speak that are waiting for a bit of TLC (i.e. time) that will lead to a pot of gold!

As for the camera Civilspotter, at the time I used a Zenith E - the bottom of the range 100% manual camera - when you got everything right it came together really well, but there were plenty of occasions when one-off shots slipped through my fingers.

Anyway, here's a few more photos.

This thread seems to be drying up so I'll post a final 3 shots - one from Stansted, the other 2 from Heathrow.
