Chris, greetings! Would you mind if I cropped the Upper Volta Cessna 337 picture from the PDF file you sent me and posted it to the small air forces thread? Thanks much- Greg
  3. Yes my Skyvan didn't have autopilots made for long nights. One a/c didn't have arm rests which made it twice as long nights. One night going into PHL I was in right seat then I fell asleep inside the marker (when I do fall asleep head drops and I wake up) I looked over at A/C he was asleep. Must have made it OK still alive. The bigger the aircraft get the less fun to fly. Easier to make a living though.
    Sincerely
    Chris

Hi, as a matter of interest, I have flown the same types as you. Although the Convair flight was a "look-see", the Chief Pilot let me pole it as I was a rookie then, back in 1985 or so when I flew for Namib Air who had two CV580s. I did night freight on the Skyvan for a year on one of the world's most treacherous routes weather wise (Johannesburg to Durban), no autopilot either. Once we had to turn back because the headwinds were so strong we would have run out of fuel. Another time I told the copilot I was going to take 40 winks. When I woke up, he was asleep as well. I'm sure you have a few horror stories?
    Regards
    Ralph
