I'm delighted that you have come back, with the thread so old I didn't have any great expectations other than chancing my arm with nothing to lose.
If you were able to share copies of his letters that would be overwhelming.
I understand a deadline must be your priority, but if you were able to bear me in mind and when you go through your research that would be amazing.
Thank you everso much for coming back so quickly too.
Thanks very much for your message. I can help to an extent, although perhaps not as fully as you'd like.
I spoke to him on the telephone and also wrote to him, all in connection with his work on 617 Squadron and the dams mine. I am currently finishing off a four volume work about the raid and he features in there both in photos and in the text, including extracts from his letters. If you can bear with me I can in time, send you copies of his letters which detail some of his work, mostly with the Dambusters, although I really need to concentrate on the books for now as they are almost two years overdue!
But do message me again if time marches on and I'll be happy to help. Im afraid I have nothing on tape, to my regret.
Kind regards for now
Hi, I saw your post on an old thread from 2010 about the colour of the dam buster mines, you mentioned that you were the only person to ever interview the armament office Henry 'doc' Watson.
Henry Watson was my grandfather, my mother is Irene (Thornton was Watson), Henrys youngest daughter.
I would be extremely grateful if you were able to share with me any material that you may have kept from your interview with Henry. My grandad passed away in February '95. I recall him telling me about his time in Burma and how Baghdad was the worst place he had ever been. I would dearly appreciate anything you may be able to share with me from the interview. I'm hoping maybe you might have a small Dictaphone tape??? But anything that you can help with would be amazing and will happily reimburse any costs involved.
I hope this message finds you well, and hope to hear from you. My direct email is firstname.lastname@example.org
My kindest regards
