Hi everybody.

I usualy read the messages on this board. This time I will like to start one more picture challenge. How about the Albanian Air Force, air arm of the most isolated and secret country in Europe in the prevous 50 years. As with the Syrian Air Force, the number of pictures of Albanian military aircraft on the web is close to zero. And when you find something, you will see that they are of very bad quality. So, let see what you can do about this challenge. Any picture (especialy colour) of Albanain Air Force MiG-21, Il-14, An-2, Yak-18, Mi-4 or anything else will be great success for the people that are ready to take this challenge. So, the Olimpic games are open...Try to win the gold.

Regards,
Kolumbo

few snaps of the Albanian AF.....MIG 21, MIG 19 and 2 Aloutte III choppers. The Albanian AF also has about 10 more MIG 21s on order from Ukrain and is planning to upgrade the present MIG 21s with help of ISrael....

these links seem relevant :

http://www.geocities.com/albanianpilot/

this comes from the latter, which seems rather interesting.

Dear friends,

As I can see, current replies confirm my statement that you will not find good quality pictures of Albanian Air Force aircraft on the net. Kabir, thank you for your effort but I am almost sure that the photos that you have posted are not taken in Albania. I think that MiG-21 photos are from Russian museum and also you can clearly see the Franch Army identification on the tail of the helicopter that you have posted.

However, looking for good photos of Albanian aircraft I found that reports on this air arm has been publushed in:

Air Forces Research No.12

Air International/December 1992 page 305

World Air Power Journal No.5 p.140

So, if someone here own anything of this, it will be great to scan and post some rare beautifull colour photo of Albanian Air Force aircraft.

Keep on the fight for the gold...

Even rarer are pics of Albanian aircraft in flight :-)

Sorry, poor joke. Hope the Albanians get it together and build a professional little AF.

Here is a US aircraft that fell into Albanian hands during the 1950s. This T-33A, serial 51-4413, was forced down by Albanian fighter aircraft on the 23rd December 1957. The T-33 was assigned to the 3131st Maintenance Group at Chateauroux, France and was more than likely on a delivery flight to possibly Greece when forced down. The aircraft is still on display at the Military Museum in Gjirokaster, Albania. The US pilot was returned to US authorities.

Interesting info about that T-33 (another plane I just love!). So, does Albania still use the MiG-15 (J-4) and/or MiG-17 (J-5)?

the aircraft in the middle picture, the transports, what type are they? ilyushin-14s?

Minotaurus2004
28th February 2002, 12:39
Yes, the transports are Il-14 Crate. Two were deliveres by the German Democratic Republic (VEB) and one by Czechoslovakia (Avia) in the 1970s. They are said to be still operational at Tirana-Rinas airport, although this is very unsure. If they are, they are the last operational Il-14s in military service in the whole world!
